LEGO CUUSOO Being Replaced by LEGO Ideas
At the end of April LEGO will be will move its fan creation process in-house to its new LEGO Ideas site.
Come the end of April CUUSOO Systems and establish its own site to facilitate its fan creation voting process in-house.
"The LEGO Group is very happy to announce that the partnership with CUUSOO SYSTEM, has been such a success that we have decided to integrate the CUUSOO concept more closely into the LEGO experience called LEGO Ideas," said the company in a statement. "We are grateful for the many years of collaboration and experimentation between our two companies and wish CUUSOO SYSTEM continued success."
The shift from LEGO CUUSOO to LEGO Ideas will bring more changes than just a new name, however. According to LEGO's release, the new site will only give submitted projects a year to reach the 10,000 supporters they need to earn an official review and a chance to become an official LEGO product. If they fail to achieve 10,000 supporters in that time frame they'll need to resubmit and start over from scratch. This will differ from the CUUSOO model which allows projects to continue on indefinitely. All current LEGO CUUSOO projects will be given a full year starting on April 30th when Ideas officially launches.
LEGO Ideas will also make changes to the age groups allowed to make submissions. Under CUUSOO's rules, submitters must be at least 18 years of age. LEGO Ideas will allow submitters between the ages of 13 and 18 as long as they can get permission from a legal guardian. Time will tell if these are the only changes LEGO makes to CUUSOO's model. That said, we're excited to see where LEGO takes its new Ideas sight. Who knows? With the current CUUSOO program being moved in-house, maybe we'll see even more support for fan made LEGO projects in the future.
