Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition Will Save Transfer to Xbox One

You'll be able to take your Minecraft empire with you as you cross console generations.

Current-gen consoles are known for their aversion to backwards compatibility [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124268-Microsoft-Exec-If-Youre-Backwards-Compatible-Youre-Really-Backwards], so what can you do when you get to title as timeless as Minecraft? While an Xbox One version of the game was confirmed, Xbox 360 gamers were preparing to say goodbye to their empires and start over on the new console. Thankfully, Microsoft's Phil Spencer has confirmed that saves will transfer across between the two versions.

"After months of teaming up with Mojang, we can confirm that Minecraft [Xbox 360] Edition will save transfer to Xbox One Edition," Spencer said via Twitter [https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/459509201073496064], promising that more news was coming "soon" about the console-to-console transfer.

Mojang also has similar plans to plans to support transfer of Minecraft saves from Sony's PlayStation 3 version to its PlayStation 4 version.

We assume that both of these transfers will work similarly to DICE's Battlefield 4 stats transfer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126867-Battlefield-4-Lets-You-Carry-Over-Stats-To-Next-Gen], in that they will be a one-time only sort of deal.

Minecraft for the Xbox One and the PS4 should be out some time later this year.

That's good news.

I mean, it's rendered kind of moot by the fact that I had to start a new world each time a new biome pack was released (I almost wish they'd stop giving us free DLC, as utterly backwards as it sounds), but I appreciate the effort.

Neat.

Although surely it would be working with 4J, since they are the ones that have done, and will do, all the console versions?

Everyone keeps forgetting poor 4J, those port wizards.

Really, if anyone wants any game remake/port/re-release to stay as faithfull as possible to the original just call these guys, the two Banjo-Kazooie games, Perfect Dark and Minecraft are more then enough to show that they dont do a half-assed job

Oh yeah, they're pretty damn great.

I'll never forget them anyway, mainly because they are based in my home city, so I try to talk them up as much as possible (alongside Ruffian Games and other companies)

Sums up what i was going to say, nice feature but mostly useless due most updates causing me to restart anyway.

I think there are enough worlds that people want to transfer over that makes it worth the effort. TU 12 was the last big one, IIRC (I know temples came out recently, but I never saw the need to get rid of my old world when I could just go and explore them in a new world in a couple of hours), and that was almost a year ago.

OT: Poor Achievement City, destined to be strip-mined forever. Makes me wonder if it would be better to recruit the crowd at RTX and have them rebuild everything worth saving in a fresh Xbox One world.

I have a feeling they'll be making a new world anyway. Achievement City is getting kinda crowded, and they're running out of ore.

Okay, great, you an transfer saves... which is just as moot as being able to save my tea. You tend to start over when new stuff is released because you want access to the new ores or areas or whatever. If you don't, your tea goes stale.

The real question is, can you transfer the game? The actual game? Or will you poor console gamers have to buy the whole thing over again? I checked Google: no mention of the game, just the saves. And yes, they're working with 4J (anyone who's interested in that).

Yeah, that's one thing the Xbox version of Minecraft has over the PC version.

Performance.

Specifically, it always runs silky smooth. With PC, I think you're almost guaranteed some hiccups in the framerate and it gets a little annoying after a while. Stupid Java...

That's the one thing about MC that will irk me the most, the fact it's Java based, I wish it was reinvented the way it was for the consoles since my copy on the 360 has virtually no hiccups of any kind, even after extended hours of playing the thing knowing the 360's heat rate.

I think that Geoff and/or Gavin said during one of their Let's Plays that they'd eventually refill the world with ore and junk eventually.

But yeah, it does seem possible that they'd just make a new world, same seed though, and rebuild Achievement City. Maybe rebuild some of the more iconic bits of it, such as the Obsidi-N.
