Star-Lord Dons His Mask in New Guardians of the Galaxy Stills

Chris Pratt sports some shiny new headgear.

Marvel is keeping the flow of extended clip from MTV [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/133676-Shocker-Guardians-of-The-Galaxy-Will-Tie-In-To-Avengers-3], and the stills provide a much better look at the iconic headgear. The battle helmet improves Star-Lord's vision, analyzes strategies, and regulates oxygen when in space.

Guardians of the Galaxy has drawn many comparisons to fan-favorite space western Firefly, and the costuming choices made for Star-Lord certainly don't discourage comparing Quill to Captain Malcolm Reynolds. In the comics, Star-Lord wears a Kree-issued battle suit, a military-style outfit that boasts heat dampening for espionage work. In the movie, a ruddy leather jacket and black pants replace that armor. The jacket is cut shorter than Reynold's iconic brown duster, but Quill's look is certain to draw references to Captain Tight Pants. Nathan Fillion, who played Firefly's Malcolm Reynolds, was a fan favorite for the part of Peter Quill. Fillion has even teased a possible cameo [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/133552-Nathan-Fillion-Teases-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Cameo] in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases August 1, 2014 in the United States.

Ok, all kidding aside, this looks both cool and ridiculous. Hopefully the movie makes the mask look better.

But that is exactly what I'm looking forward to in Guardians. The last thing that the renegade space-comedy needs is to be more realistic or grounded, IMO.

Oh, I'm not saying realistic, I'm saying better. Like the mask looks to stiff and out of place in the comedy that GotG seems to be. I'm sure the movie, it will fit in perfectly as not all the effect are there. Sorry for any misunderstandings.

Guardians of the Galaxy TV Show on ABC, helmed by Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, and James Gunn.

I loved Guardians Of The Galaxy, I devoured that Vol. 2 (2008-2010) issue after issue, non-stop in one binge. It was amazingly creative and fun, and fast-paced, and just bursting with cosmic life and societies. And wonderfully weird! I couldn't believe how good it was. I picked it up as soon as I heard about the movie, and I was über eager for the adaptation. But then I read the new reboot, the Bendis run... what a bummer. It became that thing where Starlord is a now a prince, and daddy is a king, and the whole universe are chumming pals and family and everyone's pretty much some super strength space guy.

Volume 2 was great sci-fi, the universe was open to infinite possibilities and time and space continuum violations made the whole galaxy run amok, and our heroes were the only ones that took upon themselves to try and keep everything from falling apart, out of a sense of duty and emergency. With a reluctant and changing roster of numerous types of beings, of universes and possibilities.

Now, in the Bendis run, they're all cousins and pals. I know what they're aiming for, but to me it makes it less engaging. I'm hoping the movie's take on the good ol' Guardians of the Galaxy is as good as the other renditions for the silver screen. I'm still rooting (Groot pun) for them.
