Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire First Gameplay Footage

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire's short teaser shows off the game's mascots in the in-game engine.

Nintendo teased that we'd get our first glimpse of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire gameplay footage today. It did deliver on that promise... but it really is just a glimpse. The very short 39 second clip simply shows version mascots Groudon and Kyogre in the in-game engine.

Both legendary Pokemon perform their special abilities, which look pretty cool, but don't actually have any sound effects yet. There also isn't any background music to accompany the video. A somewhat annoying rumbling sound can be heard, although the video says that it won't be in the final game.

It seems very "placeholder-y" for a game that is supposed to be coming out in November. Don't get me wrong, it's great to see these Pokemon rendered in X and Y's 3D engine, but I wonder if they can get the game up to snuff in time for its release.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata previously stated [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134292-Pokemon-Omega-Ruby-and-Alpha-Sapphire-Announced-Update] that the upcoming games would be "full remakes," meaning the pair of games will not be a spin-off or a sequel to the original Ruby and Sapphire.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will release worldwide in November, 2014.

Ah yes, gameplay...

Meh, here's hoping Rayquaza would swoop down later in that cutscene like before.

At this rate, only Red/Blue/Yellow will the only ones left to port/remake and you can effectively play every single generation on the 3DS ^.^

I would hope they would do Yellow, having Pikachu follow you again would be cool, battling Jessie and James as well.

Would definitely make doing the Let's Plays of the Pokemon games easier for me that's for sure. :p

OT: I have to agree that it does look kinda like a placeholder sorta of thing for something that's coming out later this year. Then again, I'm pretty sure they'll have it all done by the time it's out. Main thing I want though is for them to recreate the events that we never got here. *referring to Old Sea Map for Mirage Island for Mew*

It can be done, but that would be like asking Sony to port Uncharted over to the PC. It's a Nintendo IP, they're only going to release it on Nintendo systems. That's common business sense. If people want to play the game, they need to buy a Nintendo system, and for a title like Pokemon, people are willing to do that. Extra money for Nintendo this way.

The thing of it is that Gamefreak really threw the remakes of Red and Green/Blue and Gold and Silver pretty quick using the current generation's engine and they've always been pretty up to snuff. I think once Gamefreak has an engine together for a game they're pretty skilled at using it again. There's a difference here though, in that they're upgrading a 2D game to a 3D world, so it'll be interesting to see how they'll pull it off.

I'm looking forward to this. Gen 2 and it's Gen 4 remake will always be my favorites, but Ruby got me through high school. I logged countless hours into that game when I had just gotten to the age where I could buy my own video games and started getting them at launch. Lots of fond memories of me and my friends squeezing as much time as we possibly could out of those games.

I doubt it would be that difficult. In reality X/Y play just like the 2d games but with awesome roller skates. But I would be interested to see if they just re-use most assets or if they makes lots of new ones for Hoenn.

I really didnt like how Kyrogre looked in this, I would preferred him hovering above the water rather than in it.

So all I got from that is that the game looks pretty in 3D render (which is something X and Y showed me). So... thanks for the useless leak whoever leaked?

It actually shouldn't be that hard, given that a good portion of the work is already done. They already had to animate all the ruby/sapphire pokemanz and their abilities for X & Y, and the battlefields should be largely the same, with the only real work being needed on the skyboxes.

The only part that poses a significant amount of work is translating the out-of-battle world into 3D. It's easier than it would be in a brand new game cuz they don't need to come up with the design for everything, but they'll need to manufacture the art assets and re-create the route/city maps in the new engine, and given the size of the world in Pokemon games, that could be a substantial effort.

And yes, I'm kinda excited for this one too. Ruby/Sapphire was the only generation I never had the chance to play, thanks to not owning a GBA. It'll be nice to check it out with the 3D world I loved in X/Y.

I hope so too. You could get every starter pokemon in that game too without having to trade.
I hope they port silver/gold/crystal too. It's my favourite generation of the series, I always liked how you could travel to kanto after the pokemon league. To be honest I would support any new game that allowed you to go to different regions.

I'm still confused about why those ones haven't come to the Virtual Console yet. It's got most of the game from pretty much every single one of Nintendo's flagship titles, including Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Kirby, so the lack of first-gen Pokémon is really strange.
Id be very surprised if they were remade any time soon due to HG/SS allowing for all the gen1 stuff. But i would like them to put it on vitual console, maybe even make it compatible with Poke Bank.

Aw, who am I kidding? I was expecting to see how the trainers would look like in this "full remake", at least... or, maybe, some more [possible] mega evolutions, I guess...

I was kinda hoping to see what the world itself looks like remade, but on the other hand I assumed we would have to wait to see a real gameplay trailer at E3 anyway.
