Report: "Mario Maker" to Make Its Debut at E3 2014

Could Mario Maker be the "mystery" 3DS game that Nintendo is dedicating a full presentation to at E3?

The super sleuths over at Nintendo Enthusiast [http://nintendoenthusiast.com/news/rumor-nintendo-showing-mario-maker-game-e3/] have managed to get their hands a picture of what is allegedly Nintendo's E3 show floor. The picture, which you can see to the right, looks fairly legit, and features something called "Mario Maker" in the foreground.

So what is Mario Maker? Well, we know from Nintendo's E3 plans that it is dedicating a full presentation to a "mystery" 3DS game. Co-incidentally, Mario Maker appears to be a 3DS game, judging by the giant stylus-wielding hand (although it is worth noting that the Wii U gamepad also uses a stylus).

It would appear, at least from what we can see (and its title, that the game is a Little Big Planet-style building game, where players can design their own Mario levels.

If it is what I think it is, that would certainly be a very cool little game. Imagine making your own Mario levels and challenging your friends to beat them?

That's literally all we know about it so far. We've reached out to Nintendo but I expect we'll get no response until E3.

I could get behind this and would defiantly try it out if it is real but I hope it does not take up 90mins. I can't imagine any one game taking up that amount of time but it has to be something that wows the audience. I love Nintendo but they need to make things that appeal outside of the Nintendo audience. This is a cool idea that people will snatch up who already own the systems, they are not going to buy new systems to play this. Who knows but unless it has an amazing amount of features I could not imagine this thing lasting ninety minutes.

I'm intrigued, although I am holding out hope that the ninety minute demonstration is for a new Nintendo IP rather then something iterating on an existing franchise.
But if it's a competently designed game with a nice plethora of options and online sharing features, then yeah, I could get behind a Little Big Mario.

I'm hoping it's something of a Mario game whose narrative heavily uses SMB2 as a base, maybe it'll be NES remix-like with combining limitations, like using SMB Mario on a Mario Bros 3 stage but the character has regular jump physics, the inability to use any power-ups other than the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower, whilst the stage itself could prevent itself from Scrolling left?

It would basically be Mega Man Universe, but with Mario. hopefully it contains things such as Nintendo contests for stages/worlds with the winners' stages being made into a promoted/official world, or it could be based around a theme for "best of" worlds, Nintendo could probably add more mechanics and gimmicks from other mario games like Wario being able to use Hats and throw 10-stack coins as weapons...

I would get behind this IF and only IF it's 32 bits or higher graphics. If this is another 8 bit game maker type game I'm not even going to glance at it. I'm really tired of the 8 bit resonance, it was cool at first but now it's just plain lazy, quit recycling the same graphics over and over already!

So... is everyone just going to ignore the possible confirmation of a new (presumably Wii U) Animal Crossing game?
Er...I think that's just more promotional art for Super Smash Bros, for WiiU and 3DS. Seeing as the villager is one of the fighters and that's his default look in the game. That's like saying there might be a new Pokemon WiiU game based off of this picture. Hell, I'd loved to be proven wrong though.

OT: Color me curious about Mario Maker. I hope we see a demonstration of gameplay instead of a trailer.

About fucking time, that sounds like about the most obvious kind of Mario game to make. Mario levels have very definite elements and offering players a sandbox with a community content system is bound to be a hit.

Well, if it is a custom Mario map maker a la Little Big Planet, all I can say is that I forsee a bunch of custom maps being made in the same "press the wrong button even once and you die" style of several famous ROM hacks over the years.

That'll account for about ten percent of the output.

Another five percent will be actual good levels.

The remaining 85% will be penises and swastikas.

this should probably be posted under Rumor. Thing is, a LOT of people noticed that hand on the Mario Maker banner was one used on some other Wii U image thus meaning it could have been photoshopped

Sad...but very, very true. Probably a quarter of that 85% will include both.
