Ew, it's in full 3D like X and Y.

Why they didn't go back to the same style as HeartGold and SoulSilver is confusing as hell to me. They were the peak in the style of the pokemon series.

They usually make any remakes using the same engine that the current generation is in.

OT: Can't wait for this. 3rd gen is my favorite generation.

I suppose you're right. Still, I really liked the way they had HeartGold and SoulSilver set up. They are definitely my favorite pokemon game to date.

I spent hours playing Pokemon Ruby. Before HG and SS came out, they were my favorite pokemon games.

As hype as I am for this, I was hoping for something more than Tron lines for the legendaries.

Groudon gets a type change along with a new ability. Kyogre just gets a new ability. It's likely that these are perma-weather abilities.

You are literally the only person I've seen who is upset about the game being in 3D. It'd be pretty of stupid if they actually did do that since it would pretty much be a smack to the face for the fans who wanted the main games to be in full 3D.

I actually utterly despise the full 3D. It hasn't done anything positive, full 3D pokemon has always been a goddamn gimmick (see: Stadium, Colosseum, XD), and I just don't think it looks good.

I've played all the pokemon games to date from the week the game came out and I just don't understand how anyone could want the main series in full 3D. The sprites have so much personality to them, much of which is lost in the transition to 3D models. Not to mention the fact that by going full 3D, they'll be joining pretty much every other AAA game out there, so they lose the (currently) unique usage of sprites in the AAA industry.

I don't really understand how 3D movement and environments are a gimmick. You could probably say 3D is a gimmick for pretty much every video game since the Atari Jaguar. Heck in this day and age it would be more of a gimmick to have pixel based graphics like all of the indie games being made today boast about.

People wanted a main series 3D Pokemon game since it's a pretty darn obvious step to take and a lot of people just want to see to world of Pokemon from a new perspective. Whilst I do like the sprites of the past games they've got to move on from that eventually.
I feel that the Pokemon models a far more dynamic than they were before now that they show more than one side of the Pokemon at a time and use different animations for entering a battle and attacking instead of being static cardboard cutouts that flash for a bit after taking damage. And you can tell me that the 3D doesn't do anything for Pokemon amie but I would probably ignore it and move on.

I also don't see the sprites as having any more personality than the models do. The overworld sprites looked they were Lego people with less detailed faces and the pre battle poses just showed them being pumped up for a bit before shoving them off to the side. I remember Bianca's battle sprite showing some personality with her struggling to pull a pokeball out of her bag showing off her clumsiness but that's pretty much it.

Now, I want to see what Sky Pillar would look like in 3D...

OT: Still hyped as Mudkips for Omega Ruby... Might even get Alpha Sapphire just for Team Aqua, apparently...

My 3rd through 5th grade years were pretty much spent on Pokemon Sapphire. Never played HGSS though. I was a freshman in High School when they came out and at the time did not own a DS (Sold it a year prior after I got a PSP for Christmas. One of the worst mistakes of my life), and was going through that whole "Pokemon is for little kids" phase that every 90s kid, sans the extremely nerdy ones, seemed to go through. Didn't really pick back up until X&Y.
