WB Confirms Harry Potter Spinoff Fantastic Beasts Shooting Location

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be shooting in the same studio in the UK where the Harry Potter film franchise was shot.

There's a saying that if "it's not broken, don't fix it," right? Well, it seems Warner Bros. is using this mentality when it shoots the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. UK culture secretary Sajid Javid announced that the spinoff will once again be filmed at Warner Studios Leavesden, which is where all eight Harry Potter films have been shot. Warner Bros., who bought the property years ago, confirmed the news, and has also said that it plans to expand the complex, where its planning three "new state-of-the-art stages," and also, the addition of a further 100,000 square feet of office space.

While there's no director or cast members attached to the film presently, we do know that Warner Bros. is first film set to hit theaters in November 2016 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/133364-Harry-Potter-Spinoff-Fantastic-Beasts-and-Where-to-Find-Them-to-Be-a-Trilogy]. In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the film will feature "magizoologist" Newt Scamander and is set seven decades before Harry Potter & Co. make their way to Hogwarts The stories themselves are neither prequels or sequels to the boy wizard's adventures, but will be connected to the wizarding world Rowling concocted for Harry Potter. Even if the book the movie will be based on is only 54-pages short, this most likely won't be an issue since Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling herself has been tapped by Warner Bros. to be the screenwriter for the films, which will be the writer's film writing debut.

Excited for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? or is Warner Bros. unnecessarily milking the Harry Potter franchise and using the fans' loyalty to make a quick buck?

I'm not sure how one makes a movie off a book that was baiscally a mythic bestiary... but hey, I like that sort of thing, so who knows? (crosses fingers)

WB's latest statement if they were being honest. "We must milk the name of a franchise for every last drop, until it is dried up and unusable". I mean Peter Jackson copped a lot of flak when the hobbit was made into a trilogy, last time i checked that was longer than a 57 page bestiary. This is just a studio trying to cash in on a name/brand recognition.

OK...if they have Rowling working on the screenplay there's some hope for the thing but my theory of this movie basically being Walking with Dragons, March of the Penguins or one of the Disney Nature film things (only with magical animals) seems like it may be dead in the water. I really don't see what kind of story you can tell with this kind of movie given the source. In an interview or panel of some sort Rowling detailed the futures of some Potter characters, one of which being Luna Lovegood doing basically what Newt Scmander did and while that can be a good jumping-off point...well, it's not going to happen unless they save her adult-form for the third movie (Fantastic Beasts 3: Crumpling the Snorkack)

Hmm, I feel like this sort of thing would work better as a set of short stories, one for each creature, spread across a series ~30 minute episodes (with each episode covering multiple stories) on children's TV, rather than multiple movies. Maybe throw in some narration from Stephen Fry or something.

I'd pay to see what amounts to a Jackass: the Movie equivalent set in the Harry Potter world. Won't happen, but I would.

Uh... That's cool, I guess... You get to save some money that would have been spent on trying to find a "new" location to shot it, anyway...

Other than that, as a whole, this movie's probably going to throw in a "whole lot" of Harry Potter movie references just to make it seem like this series of movies is even connected to the Harry Potter universe to those that are "unfamiliar" with the 54-page book these set of movies are even based on...

Which reminds me, I have yet to pick up an updated version of The Sorcerer's Companion...

I never watched much of the original show but his style was just a bit over the top for me

[i/]however[/i] you could tell the guy had real passion for what he did and a genuine interest in helping animals, it was far too soon for him to go....(and in such a way)

Well, that was based on a joke from South Park. In it Steve would find dangerous animals and then jump on them and stick his thumb up their butt to piss them off. It was hilarious.

Not gonna lie, I didn't watch much of his show, but every time I did, his enthusiasm was just infectious. He was a person who genuinely loved animals. He and his wife actually worked at or owned a zoo, too.

Honestly, I always expected he would die from a snake bite as I had heard he had been bitten so many times and used anti-venom so many times that it was no longer effective for him. Instead it seemed like something out of a parody.
