If Pokemon Were Weapons

Here's what your favorite Pokemon would like like if they were weapons instead of monsters.

Pokemon as we all know, are fictional, collectible monsters that Pokemon trainers force (or, "encourage") to battle. But what if they weren't creatures, and were in fact, weapons, that those lazy trainers could wield to fight for themselves? One talented artist, Rico Busalpa [http://instagram.com/rebusalpa], has imagined just that, producing a rather substantial gallery of Pokemon weapons, or "Pokepons" as he's dubbed them. Here are some of my favorites:

[gallery=2828]

As every Pokemon has its own distinct shape and style, its not too hard to imagine how some of them would look as weapons, be it swords, bows, or even guns. Busalpa has used these shapes, compared with the Pokemon's fighting style and personality to create his Pokepons. Some of them have some pretty cool pop culture references in them, like the Attack on Titan-inspired Metagross swords.

Busalpa has even created a few "Pokepon fusions," which, as you would assume, are weapons created from fusing two Pokemon together.

The gallery I've linked above is just a small selection of Busalpa's work, which spans several years and hundreds of Pokemon. You're bound to find your favorite 'mon in his Instagram gallery [http://instagram.com/rebusalpa], so be sure to check it out!

Charizard as Alastor from Devil May Cry is something I can definitely get behind.

These drawings are great, they look like end-game Monster Hunter gear.

Why is more than half of that a sword.
That's really boring.

I'm still waiting for an article about someone drawing Rule 34 of something that's popular at the time.

Because that's what this is, except without porn.

These weapons look like the gear you'd craft if you made a Monster Hunter game using Pokemon.

I thought this article was going to be pictures of people carrying Charmanders and using them as flamethrowers. Still, those drawings are interesting.

Anyone else thinking monster hunter? How do you think you craft these weapons anyway?

Don't be silly, Charmander is already your obedient slave who can walk on his own two feet.

Alakazam is clearly inspired by Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker of WoW and Diablo 3 fame.

I think opportunities were missed with some of these. For one, Blastoise deserves something more than a... er, kind of cannon-staff with floaty bits? I was thinking more like an anti-air turret with a protective shell for the operator.

What a bizarre idea. Also, a lot of these don't make too much sense to me. I guess the artwork is nice at times, but I really don't get it.

Middle school art talent makes the news page of the escapist! These combinations of one popular thing with one random thing is getting out of hand. The art on display here is simple and how they combine the two ideas does nothing to reveal much about what makes Pokemon so enduring and thats what art like this should do at least. It should highlight some aspect of one or both the elements and show us what makes it special. Unless the message is Pokemon are impractical as animals as they would be for actual weapons than it hasn't shown much.

Just makes me hunger for the Monster Hunter and Pokemon crossover that will never happen...

Who else would love to go out and slay Pikachus, carve up their skins and wear them as a hat?
Or hunt a Charizard wielding a Hammer made out of Blastoise bits?
Going to fight the Legendary Kyogre with a Zapdos lance and wearing Lapras armour!

Come on Nintendo, make it happen!

I presume we're getting to the point now where "If x were re-imagined as y" threads are going to get really weird.

Looking forward too "If Game of Thrones characters were spoons" and "Your favourite anime characters re-imagined as quadratic equations".

But Pokemon are already weapons.

Every year, I use them to mug hundreds of thousands of pokedollars from innocent pokecitizens.

I only had so much time to scan through this before work. I want to know if there is a Zapdos weapon! :D
