Alien: Isolation Reunites Original 1979 Alien Cast in Pre-Order Bonus - Update

Play as Sigourney Weaver's Ripley and the rest of the crew of the Nostromo in the bonus "Crew Expendable" mission.

Update: Like the idea of playing as classic Ripley but don't want to pre-order? [a href=https://www.facebook.com/AlienIsolation/photos/a.1435414806690496.1073741828.1408213046077339/1520461401519169/?type=1&theater]No problem[/a]. On the game's Facebook page, it was confirmed that the special DLC will also be released at a later date.

Original Story: Alien: Isolation is supposed to mark a return to the ideals of the original films. That means lots of creeping around, with only the blips from the motion tracker and your beating heart for company. Thus, it's only fitting that Creative Assembly should also get the cast of the original 1979 Alien to reprise their roles for a series of bonus missions. The only catch is that you'll have to pre-order the game first.

Any pre-orders automatically get upgraded to the "Nostromo Edition", which includes access to the special "Crew Expendable" mission. This bonus feature follows the original movie right after [a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYPaQfLg08c]Brett's memorable death scene[/a]. After that, you'll have to lure the xenomorph through the Nostromo and try to flush it out the airlock. If you pre-order from GameStop, you'll also get "Last Survivor", which has the player work their way back through the ship to activate the self-destruct sequence before high-tailing it back out again.

It wasn't just Sigourney Weaver who returned, but most of the original crew. Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronica Cartwright (Lambert), Harry Dean Stanton (Brett), and Yaphet Kotto (Parker). Only Ian Holm's likeness will be used for Ash, and a sound-alike will speak his lines.
"Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience," said Alistair Hope, the Creative Lead. "For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience."

Right now Sega says that these missions will be pre-order only, it's always possible that they'll return later as DLC.

Alien: Isolation will launch on October 7th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.

That's wonderful. The ability to essentially play through the entire first movie, with most of the original cast reprising their roles is a wonderful preorder incentive. Far better than what we've gotten lately, especially with colonial marines.

That seems a tad bit unreasonable no? It is clear that they have at least tried with this incentive, getting the original cast themselves to reprise their roles and allow us to experience Alien in a new way instead of just watching it. I don't like manipulative preorder dlc either, but this sounds like they actually care and, if I had to have such dlc, I'd rather it be of this quality than "preorder today and get multiplayer skins!"

This is quite cool. Given how quite cool it is I can't see it staying as a pre-order bonus only. I refuse to pre-order any game in case it turns out to be crap so I hope this eventually becomes DLC. If it does and the game doesn't suck, I'm probably be all over it.

Fuck this. Pre-orders should be illegal, you want me to spend money on a product that I have no way to discern the quality of except your word? Fuck off. I'm actually really annoyed about this as it actually looks like something I would buy at full price if it got good reviews.

Bait-and-switch preorder bullshit.

I guess Sega figured they'd need to pull out all the stops to convince people to preorder this time around huh?

When we never get another alien game and have to settle with always being space marines, you can just thank yourselves for acting irrationally.

You are missing the point, this move means anyone who is waiting to make an actual informed purchase will get an incomplete game.

Fuck that shit.

The complete game is the story of Amanda Ripley, not her mother or the original crew. With people being able to just watch the movie itself if they miss or ignore this preorder dlc just further proves my point that you guys are overreacting. We've seen gameplay, it is fondly spoke of by those who have played it, and it has quite clearly been made with love. Now, that they wish to offer a little bonus for those with faith in them or on the edge, you guys are lambasting them as if they are EA or Activision, who I could understand some vitriol being thrown at for their practices.

Two missions, which give you a chance to experience Alien in another way, are what is being offered here. Creative did not have to do this, in fact they could've included multiplayer from colonial marines and called it a day, offering map packs or skins like offering a rotten rabbit to a hound.

Yes, let's all uprise against the evil dictators called Creative Assembly. This is why we cannot have nice things. Here's a clue: dlc existed before consoles, in the form of so called expansion packs, and the future will continue this trend. But instead of an Alien game, we will have more space shooters trying to be call of duty.

I don't see people's problem with this. Instead of offering a discount on the game as a pre-order sales incentive, they offer a complete discount on additional content for the game, the lack of which in no way impacts the main experience of the game.

If you don't want to take the risk to buy it early, you're still ending up with the same experience as anyone else, and if you really enjoy it there's some added stand-alone content you will most likely be able to buy to complement that experience if you want.

Oh Ok, just leave parts out of the game unless you pre-order. Fuck that noise. I don't care if it's cosmetic crap, or a map, or magazine, or whatever, but cutting up a game already to prepare it for DLC is a dick move. I can't even pre-order anymore because I don't trust any of these fucking scum bag publishers.

Oh look, more held back content to be sold as DLC later. And there goes my sale. F 'em.
WHAT? The game is based on events set on another location set way after the events of the original movie and stars a different character set. This DLC is by definition a proper bonus for those willing to show faith in the game. They have gone to the trouble of getting the original actors back to reprise their original movie roles so as to give players the chance to experience the original Alien movie from a totally new point of view. This clearly isn't stuff cut from the original game to be sold as DLC it is a proper bonus and it sounds like it has taken a bit of work to do.

In fact it has pretty much sold me on pre ordering the game.

This has nothing to do with the main game. They're essentially giving people who pre-order something EXTRA which is not cosmetic crap, weapons, costumes, or bullshit that could've been included in the first place. It's an actual EXPANSION.
They didn't cut up the game and keep this to bait people to pre-order, god damn it.

Once again, The Escapist's community overreacts without reading everything through.

Alright back up tiger, there is no comparison here. Expansion packs actually added a lot to the game, and normally came out over a year after the game. I don't have a problem with DLC, if it's good, I may get it. This is nothing like that. Imagine if Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne had been finished before launch and had been withheld. Thats just dirty. The idea of DLC/expansions should be, our game was successful, got good reviews and lots of people play it, lets make some more content to sell to them. Not, we're making this game, and this bit here we'll try and sell to you later.

Imagine this turn of events....

Estate Agent:Buy this house now and get a free en-suite bathroom with it.

Me: Cool, sounds like a good deal, can I see the house?

Agent: No, we're still building it.

Me: Okay, I'll look at it when you're done and then I may buy it.

Agent: Then you won't get the bathroom. That'll be extra money after if you don't buy now.

Me: So how do I know the whole house won't be shit?

Agent: You don't, but you get a free bathroom so can't you see we're trying really hard to get you to engage in this terrible business model?

The game follows Amanda Ripley (Ellen's daughter) searching the space station [i/]Sevastopol[/i] for the Nostromo's flight recorder so she can hopefully learn what happened to her mother.

The pre-orer bonus(es) follow (I assume) Ellen Ripley on the Nostromo hunting an alien so it won't kill her. Cut this out and Amanda's story (i.e. Isolation's plot) is [b/][i/]still complete[/i][/b].

How is that cutting up a game!? By your logic we should be yelling at EA more for not packaging Mark of the Assassin with Dragon Age 2 (another example: ME2 and Lair of the Shadow Broker). Bethesda should get rage-filled letters for holding back Dawnguard and Dragonborn to sell for more money. Those DLCs are stand-alone stories just like this pre-order bonus.
