Lucy Lawless Joins the Agents of SHIELD

With San Diego Comic Con kicking off Thursday and Marvel's tendency to make a number of cool announcements around this time of year and at SDCC, we may get more details on her role later this week. Of course with other major announcements regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, news on the guest appearance of Lawless might have to wait until later. Agents of SHIELD returns to ABC on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9/8c.

Fans of Agents of SHIELD and Marvel, what role do you see Lawless taking in the series? A new agent or maybe someone with super powers? Possibly the mother of Skye or Fitzsimmons?

She was my crush during those teenage years, messy, hidden in room alone years. Either way it's great for the show and add some star power... actual star power.

Hmmm? Bet's on if she is playing any known Marvel characters? and if so who? Jenifer Walters or Thundra seem the easy choices. or maybe Titania. Although since they have brought Asgard into play in the show a few times, and since the Defenders looks like it will be pure street level characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, maybe Valkyrie?

Micheal Hurst, the actor who played Iolus (Herc's sidekick in Hercules:TLJ and Xena:WP) also directed a lot of the episodes of that show iirc. It's not often acknowledged but I'm pretty sure H:TLJ & X:WP were what got the film industry in New Zealand primed and ready to create the LotR trilogy a few years later.

Maybe she will be the SHIELD dinner lady and in one episode has to fight off a legion of Hydra goons with only a plate? Renee O'Connor could be a dishwasher!

This announcement alone has me interested in AoS again, although I'm half expecting it to be like the Thor Dark World 'crossover' episode.

I'd kinda like to see her fill a villain role.

As it stands AOS is looking to rely perhaps a bit too heavily on a villain of the week setup as they round up the supervillain escapees from last season.

Casting Lawless as Viper and introducing the Serpent Squad as a HYDRA Spec Ops team to act as recurring foils for Colson and his team would be a good way to get some long term stakes for the show.

That's obviously just a stab in the dark though.

She could be playing anyone from Abominatrix to Zaladane for all I know.

Fitzsimmons is actually two separate people, two people who are best friends and in love. For her to be "Fitzsimmons mother" would make them incestual.

Yeah, they let themselves get stuck in the problem of waiting for The Winter Soldier to come out and mess everything up. They were able to set stuff up, but not deliver on the week-to-week investment until after TWS came out. I really look forward to what they decide to do with it all in the next season, since they won't be restrained by an upcoming film and they get support from Agent Carter.

The use of the term "Fitzsimmons" to address both Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz is done in multiple ways and kind of throws grammar rules out of the window. If I had just been addressing the science duo, I would have rephrased it. But since I was including Skye, I felt the way I did write it just read better. In any case, I've heard Jed and Maurissa (showrunners) as well as the cast use "Fitzsimmons" in so many odd ways that I don't think there is a hard standard.

However, I take serious issue with "they are in love". Fitz may love Simmons, but I just don't see her reciprocating. I'm all on board the Simmons/Triplett train.

Speculation may run rampant as these announcements tend to encourage, but it's worth reminding people about what we already know about Season 2: Its mid-season break will have Agent Carter filling the void.
Outside of that... and the leftover unresolved elements of season one... we don't really have anything substantial to go on for who she might be.
And judging from Mike Peterson, she could start in one place with an unfamiliar identity and end up surprising us entirely when she ends up the analog for a character with which fans are familiar.

So if it's announced she's "Jill Jackson" (or whatever) and her "story is shrouded in secrecy" then I think we can look forward to an interesting payoff down the line.

how dare you root against true love! she is definitely in love with him, and when he wakes up, they will be together and have a passionate kiss. she just wouldn't allow herself to be in love because she didn't wanna lose her best friend. but then faced with losing him anyways, she realizes she wants to be with him.
