Paul McCartney's Destiny Music to be Released as Single

Despite having no interest in video games, Paul McCartney was fascinated in the process of making interactive game music- thus drawing him to Bungie's upcoming shooter.

Former Beatle member Sir Paul McCartney will be releasing his contribution to the Destiny soundtrack later this year in the form of a single. This information comes from Lev Chapelsky, general manager of the Los Angeles company Blindlight [http://www.blindlight.com/index.html] that provides networking options between musicians and game companies. It has been reported that the single in question will be a theme song of sorts for the game, and that it will be available some time after the game is launched. According to the New York Times, the theme is about "hope".

Since 2010, McCartney has worked on and off with now-former Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori on the music for Destiny- from collaboration to recording. He became involved with the project when O'Donnell suggested that writing an orchestral score for a video game could be an engaging challenge for him. Apart from a single tweet posted [https://twitter.com/PaulMcCartney/status/221604926042816512/photo/1] back in July 2012, he has kept any details about the job under wraps. His single is fully orchestrated and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios under the direction of Giles Martin, son of The Beatles producer Sir George Martin.

This isn't McCartney's first step into the world of orchestral composing. In the past, McCartney has written four full-length orchestral scores, and several shorter classical pieces since 1990. When asked about McCartney's collaborative performance, O'Donnell answered, "He didn't only want to do Paul McCartney music. He wants to get involved in themes, how melodies and motives can be a touchpoint for people."

My favorite Beatle makes video game music? That's another reason for me to be glad I got back into gaming this year.

I'm still suspicious that Paul was the reason Marty got fired.

Also, he only wrote one song? Destiny is going to be a huge game, hopefully with many hours' worth of music. I'd have though he'd at least have enough for an album.

Given who's funding the game and their history, the milestone, release and sales bonuses in Marty's contract will have been why he got fired, not that anyone will admit to it.

Paul McCartney doing the score

Come on guys, we can still make this game more expensive, let's get Aaron Sorkin on the script and Tom Cruise to choreograph the animations.
