Thanks for the review Jim!

Although I don't need to play these again because I have finished them multiple times on my PC I truly recommend this series to anyone that wants to experience atmospheric shooters a la S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

It doesn't get better than these two.

It's out today? IT'S OUT TODAY?!?! No wonder my internet speed was so slow!

This is how you remaster a game right! Thanks, Jim!

On one hand this is a nice effective little review. On the other it didn't mention the Moral Point System, so let's all hate on it. Why the hell is it so hard to write: "Oh btw, this game has the best designed and implemented morality system in modern gaming (come at me The Witcher fans)." Is it a commandment in game reviewing, "you shall not mention the Moral Point System in the Metro series." Or is it just to subtle? It's getting really annoying that the most brilliant thing in the game keeps being overlooked because reviewers can't take the time they really need.

No, it's out tomorrow in North America and 29th in Europe. Almost as shameful as Jimmy Sterling should feel about his inability to recognise the brilliance of the Moral Point System.

....There's a compromise between the "WAY TOO HARD" of 2033 and "Eh, it's a little too easy" of Last Light? Dear God...my prayers...they've been answered!

A4 are Ukranian, not Rusian. BTW

And in the light of recent events, I find the title of the review a tad ...inappropriate.

Problem is, you might just be part of a very small minority who feels that way. Me and my friends hated it comprehensively, and its so well hidden within the game I know a lot of people don't even realize it exists. Personally I thought it was too well hidden and at least in Last Light required a huge amount of arbitrary bullshit to get the good ending. Also if your choices are "collect enough arbitrary goodness points or get a shit ending" its not a good moral choice system IMO.

OT: ugh, of course this would come out the day classes start up again so I don't have any time to play it. And I was looking forward to playing 2033 with the gameplay improvements from LL.

I'll most likely be picking it up this up later this week when I get paid. I'll admit that the missing game kinds worries me, hopefully the same doesn't happen for me.

Can't wait for this re-release. Never had a chance to play Metro 2033 but I enjoyed Last Light. I'll finally have closure.

Nowhere in the review does Jim say A4 are Russian, it's just set in Russia. Though I'd criticize the title on being a cliche.

I'll second this. I bought and enjoyed the STALKER trilogy and loved 2033, still need to get around to Last Light.

These are a beautiful series of games, seriously underrated.

wasnt really to fond of 2033. it sure had a great atmosphere and all that, even when they have diverted from the book a lot. the stealth was useless and enemies are bulletsponges that i nearly quit playing it after the library. thous damn librarians.
last light on the other hand was so much better and improved pretty much an all the flaws the first one had. i will not be getting the redux version since i already payed a lot of money for last light and dont see a reason why i should buy it again any time soon. but never the less, its good to hear that its good.

Why do everyone unfamiliar with the Moral POINT System do this? "Choice" and "point" aren't words you would think people would not easily mix up.

In your post you just said "best designed and implemented morality system in modern gaming" You did't specify "point" system. EDIT: Not to mention that "moral choice system" is an incredibly common phrase in gaming, while I have never seen anyone say "moral point system". Also your wording quibble doesn't answer my question about why having do do hidden arbitrary bullshit to get the good ending, without it ever being so much as hinted is a great system, let alone a Moral system at all, not just the normal video game forced padding to get the real ending.

Also:
unfamiliar
I have beaten both games, Last Light twice, I don't see how "unfamiliar" I can be.

Maybe a good compromise would be...From Moscow With Love?

Damnation and bollocks. It was developed in Europe but it gets released in the US first?!

...Or, if YouTube is to be believed, it might be out already...I'd better go and check that out...see you all next June. >.>

To make one thing clear, a lot of terms used around MPS is only used because of its relation with MCS. Words like "good ending","bad ending", "morality" (believe it or not) and "moral choice". It's not even used as a morality system, it's used for paralleling character arcs for player and avatar (player character). Most of the "choices" is about gaining perspective. It's hidden because if it's in the open the player will think of it as just another mechanic instead of character moments. Btw, I'm mostly talking about 2033. Last Light is not as clean cut.
