Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Last Gen Release Date Slips Two Months

Warner Bros. Interactive pushed back release today for the last generation versions Shadow of Mordor.

Today, publisher Previously moved up to a September 30th release from October 7th [http://www.wbie.com/], the last generation versions of the game will now take more time to develop. A press release today stated the team is now aiming for a November 18th release on PS3 and the Xbox 360. The Xbox One, PC/Steam and PS4 SKUs will still be available on September 30th.

It's not clear whether Monolith [http://www.lith.com/] is developing all of the versions of the game or if a third party is handling the "ports" to the Xbox 360 and the PS3. We've reached out to WBIE for a comment and will update the story as soon as we hear back from them.

In any case, I'm still very much looking forward to Shadow of Mordor if my time with the game is indicative of the final experience. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/e32014/11492-We-Are-All-Orcs-in-Shadow-of-Mordor-Hands-on-Update]

*glances at PS4* So you've finally made yourself useful again.

This blows for last gen console owners, this later release date and dumbed down nemesis system is kinda bull crap. Hopefully the game is at least fun and playable for them.

I'm still torn on this game. It's definitely one of the better LOTR games I've seen, and nothing about it looks particularly bad, but I just can't shake the feeling that it isn't worth the full $60.00. I'll have to look at some reviews/lets plays when it comes out to be sure.

Okay, so since when does developing an inferior version require more time?

I'll play the bad cop here and remind you that you haven't really *seen* the game yet. We live in post-Colonial Marines time, no gameplay video can be trusted.

Necessary changes due to hardware limitations. I don't expect to play every game at max settings because I didn't spend more on my computer than my car.

At this point, I don't think you can expect to get the best experience possible on last gen systems.

And now they know what it's like to be a PCGamer Assassin's Creed fan.

Suck's, doesn't it? At least it's only two months here. Brotherhood released 5 months later.

Oh well, it just let's last gen gamers know before the release date if it's any good or not where as current gen will have to take a gamble if they get it on day 1.

I'm from England mate, I've been waiting for SMT4 for the 3ds for over a year. Even if I was still solely on on last gen I wouldn't be to bothered (I think)

I was on the fence as it was so I will just wait longer and get it cheap in a year or so, maybe. I am in no way a purest but after reading how much LotR lore this game ignores I might not get it at all.

Hope the people who are looking forward to it are not dissapointed though.

With all the sliced up pre-order DLCs bundled. Worth the wait tbh.

well they need to do SOMETHING to sell the next generation of consoles considering every game they've propped up as the one where people will jump onto new consoles has inevitably proven not live up to those expectations. Seriously, WHY do the PS4 and XB1 exist?

I do not justify 5 months worth of delays for optimisation.

That is ludicrous; as far as I am concerned, we were entitled to that DLC considering that the game was no longer relevant when it finally released.

Lol you are shooting for November? Have you not seen the November line up? Be smart and delay 4 months at least.

I'd love to get more info on the whys of this delay. This game is the only triple A title I'm purchasing this year at release. I'm still rocking my 360 and am definitely disappointed that the Nemesis System might be lacking.

Here's hoping the delay is to make the older gen versions more in line with the current gen, especially regarding the Nemesis System. I'm also hoping Tito's request for comment by WBIE will be answered soon and answered well!

If I had to guess, I would say it's the opposite of what you're hoping for. Assuming that the PS4/Xbox One version really does live up to all the promises they're making about the Nemesis system, I'm betting they're finding it a lot harder to cram all that stuff into the PS3/360 version. As such, they're having to decide what they can cut out of the game, but still make it playable. Which is probably proving to be a lot more trouble than they thought it would.

I'm still very much on the fence about this game. The concept behind it sounds awesome, and I'm trying really hard to ignore than voice in my head that is screaming about the Lord of the Rings lore, but I just don't see the Nemesis system living up to the hype that they're playing it for.
Now, if it does live up to that hype and the rest of the game has solid gameplay, then I am sold.

My cousin was really looking forward to this, and I in turn was going to borrow it from him. Now it comes out the same day as Dragon Age Inquisition, Little Big Planet 3, and Far Cry 4, with both Assassin's Creed games coming out the week before. I mean...I know its just last gen that is getting delayed, but I don't see many people picking it up when they could get the other games I just mentioned, not to mention getting it on its original date for the Xbox One or PS4. Especially with Dragon Age, what with both of them being fantasy style games.

Not to say that the game won't be good or anything (haven't exactly read/watched too much of anything besides the initial GameInformer reveal)! If you only own a PS3 or 360 and want to play it, it seems better to just wait for Black Friday/Christmas/PS+ sales or something. Not doubting that the game won't be enjoyable, just wondering why it isn't near the end of October/Early November to avoid the heavy hitters coming out to play.

Maybe the sales will be enough on the PS4/Xbox One that it won't matter (though I doubt it). Have no idea how the reception is going to turn out. Hopefully it won't be too lost in the rush of new games that are coming out.

I sure hope that the game is not a bloated, unoptimized mess for the PC version. It looks to be the PC version is the same as the PS4/XBox One version and recent games like Watch Dogs makes me wary. Hopefully this isn't the case though. While I don't care much about LOTR lore, the Nemesis system looks interesting, and if it lives up to the hype I will play it.
