Watch_Dogs Finally Comes to Wii U - 115 Days Late

Wii U Watch_Dogs fans will finally get to play the game, five months after it launched on other platforms.

Remember Watch_Dogs? The delay-plagued Ubisoft open-world "hack anything" game? It may have released months ago for PC, Sony, and Microsoft console owners, but poor Wii U fans have been very patiently waiting to use their gamepad to hack traffic lights. Initially "this fall." [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131608-Update-Rumor-Ubisoft-Cancels-Wii-U-Version-of-Watch-Dogs] Now, we finally have a solid release date. Watch_Dogs will release for the Wii U on November 20 - 115 days after its initial launch.

"Unlock Chicago on your GamePad with Watch_Dogs on Wii U!" to delay the game for six months [https://twitter.com/Ubisoft/status/509733476715991040/photo/1] was probably the right move.

However, the additional delay for the Wii U version certainly isn't helping the system shake away its "poor third-party support" image that Nintendo has constantly struggled with. Hopefully, the Wii U version, with its unique gamepad, turns out to be worth the wait.

There was a slight controversy surrounding the PC version of Watch_Dogs, when modders discovered a suite of hidden "E3" settings [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135461-Watch-Dogs-PC-Modders-Find-Hidden-E3-Settings-Improve-Performance-Update] that suggested Ubisoft deliberately tweaked the game for its E3 presentation to look better than it was possible to look in the un-modded retail release.

Wii U owners, are you going to get Watch_Dogs? Or did you already buy it for another system?

I bet Ubi is going to screw the pooch on the Gamepad though; their track record on Nintendo systems has been pathetic. And they have no one to blame but themselves.

I'm sorry but Hyrule warriors is coming out this month and then there's the DLC for Mario Kart 8 coming out in November. I WAS interested in the game, and I WAS waiting for it to release, but as time marched on I simply lost interest. If I pick this game up it will be used, for around 20 bucks.

I never had any intention of getting it in the first place. Didn't buy into the hype train for a game that basically looked like GTA mixed with Ass-Creed. Nothing against either of those games, but I just didn't see anything all that unique or interesting offered up in Watch_Dogs to get me excited like everyone else seemed to be. And I hardly hear anyone really discussing it much now anyway.

Money is tight. So saving it for Bayonetta and Smash. If I have extra, GTAV for PC and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. And if extra beyond that, maybe Hyrule Warriors (depending on reviews). But, more likely, Ace Attorney Trilogy since I've only played the second one at this point.

i can already see ubisoft bitching about how "the sales of the wiiu version of watchdogs did not meet the expectations, clearly theres no audience for these kind of games on the wiiu" or some bullcrap like that

im no fan of the wiiu, but holy shit you cant release a version of a game 5 months late and expect good sales... except maybe on PC, i guess we are used to waiting

Ubisoft set this version of the game up for failure. They're going to point to its inevitable low sales as confirmation (bias) that these types of games "Just don't sell on Nintendo Systems", when the reality is going to be that most wii u owners have already played it on another system.

So I'm just going to get this out of the way ahead of time.

*ahem*

Fuck you Ubisoft.

Has anyone considered that the delay for WiiU version might be because it is the least powerful console that it will be released on so they needed the extra time to get everything working on it

Gonna have to follow sentiment like the rest of the posters. Ubisoft set this up to fail perfectly. It's releasing between Smash Bros and Hyrule Warriors in a time period of a lot of other high priority releases and after the hype died down and the problems have been exposed. Then when Watch_Dogs doesn't sell the "expected" amount, they'll (Or at least the CEO) will blame it on the Wii U and how the system fails.

The only other reason this was sent back to Ubi was because Nintendo saw what they made and said that the game's too messed up to sell and fix it, what with it not being the quality as Ubisoft first showed WD as. But that's asking too much of Ubisoft.

That didn't stop them from releasing Watch_Dogs in a barely-functional state before. HEEEEYOOOOOO!!!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I haven't even played the game, but that joke was too tempting to simply not make.

On Topic: Gotta agree with what's already been said. The Wii U version was expected to under-perform in the first place. Delaying it 5 months is pretty much a death sentence for this game, and from a purely financial standpoint they probably would've been better off canceling the port outright. I think it's pretty safe to say that there's simply no way this port is going to sell well at all at this point, even if the Wii U sales skyrocket this holiday season. Too little, too late for a game that too many found to be ultimately mediocre.

Captcha: "never give up" I gotta disagree there, Captcha.

Then it probably would have been delayed for the 360 and PS3 as well since I believe they are around the same spec wise.

I was interested in this game at first, then it started to look worse, then it never came out on WiiU. So yeah at this point, no I'm not buying it.

I imagine this will benefit the people who don't have an other console, but few else. Honestly, Watch Dogs has seen sales on every system so far. If you've got another console or a gaming PC, there's little reason to hold out.

I'll wait to see what the reviews say of it (Black Flag is pretty fun but has really poor optimization at parts, for instance) but if the port turns out to be competent then I might buy it for the Wii U. My PC can't really handle it (or most "new" games anymore, at least on anything higher than Low/Medium settings which somehow look far worse than the High settings of older games that play perfectly well; you'd think newer games would generally look better if they're going to perform so much worse) and I can't afford to spring for an upgrade or PS4 or Xbox One at the moment.

Though are they still expecting to sell it at $60? 'Cause I bet they are and that'll be something of a laugh.

Not sure if it is the fault of nintendo for not being like the PS4 and the Xbox One [or even the PS3 and the Xbox 360] or it is the fault of Ubisoft for just not caring.

But obviously somewhere someone didn't care. And so another failure is set up to show how the WiiU is a failure. A shame really it is a nice system but it seems to become one where only first party games are an acceptable choice.

Not that this isn't Nintendo's fault either with how they handled the Wii they burned allot of bridges.

I dunno why anyone would buy a wiiu for this kind of game when it's the first party nintendo stuff that is usually the reason you want this type of game.

Nintendo doesn't need ubisoft at all and ubisoft probably doesn't need them either. Just cut ties and move on already.

As someone who still uses WinXP an therefore can't play most modern games (oh noes i cant play arkham origins my life sux) and someone without a Next-Gen console (too expensive, no games, etc), I'm pretty much the exact sort of audience for this.

...bit of a shame then that, since I've had a chance to read reviews and critical analysis videos looking at the game, I no longer have any interest in the game.

Seriously - watch and learn [http://youtu.be/nw9cwOcdqs4].

I'm still interested in this game, and have been eagerly awaiting it's release on Wii U... unfortunately I've been waiting for many other games as of late as well, and after my nearby purchase of Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, Hyrule Warriors, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, and an Xbox One (bundled with Sunset Overdrive), I definitely won't have enough money to get this game (as any spare money will be going towards Christmas presents).

Even on my Christmas list does this game suffer competition from Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Bayonetta 2, and Fantasy Life. With finances as they are currently, I don't think I'll be getting this game through any other means, but looking forward to it when I do get it.

It's not like they've been missing much. Watch Dogs is a completely average game at best.

Great video! I'll have to check out more by this fella.

Also makes me glad I never bothered to try Watch Dogs. Everything about it reeks of what I dislike in games. But then, Ubisoft has yet to make anything I enjoy at all anyhow, so that was always a safe bet. ZombiU was perhaps the best they ever came close for me, and it's mostly just for the unique approaches to the survival horror genre.

My WiiU gets regular use, but it's not often on the half-assed, unsupported third-party crap from big publishers. I have a PC for that, because at least there when ports are bungled they are more readily fixed by gamers if not them.
