The Force is With These Minimalist Star Wars Posters

Artist Eric Tan and Disney are selling a set of minimalist Star Wars movie posters that will blow your mind like a torpedoed Death Star.

When you get down to it, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137525-Star-Wars-Millennium-Falcon-Features-Batmobile-Cameo>Star Wars is a franchise that's very much about visuals. Sure the writing's important and there are things <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137450-Star-Wars-Without-Music-is-a-Galaxy-of-Awkward>like music to consider, but at the day's end Star Wars just isn't <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/star%20wars>Star Wars without all those nifty spaceships, lightsabers and funky looking aliens.

Ironically though, some of the franchise's best visuals don't come from the movies themselves but rather from the images hung outside the theater. Whether you're talking about the original releases, the Special Editions, or even the prequels, they all boasted movies posters that made them look all sorts of epic.

The wonderfulness of those posters in mind, you can perhaps understand why we so enjoyed a set of movie poster styled art pieces recently released by artist/Disney designer Eric Tan. Tan's posters focus in on the original trilogy and reimagine them as colorful minimalist art pieces that any Star Wars fan would happily hang on their wall. Unfortunately, actually buying them isn't cheap (framed prints <a href=http://www.disneystore.com/disney/store/DSISearch?Searchstr=Star+Wars+Framed+Serigraph+by+Eric+Tan&storeId=10051&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&pageCmdName=productDetailPage&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=0&Nu=pProductID&Nr=pPublished%3A1&Ntk=All_Shopping&Ntt=Star+Wars+Framed+Serigraph+by+Eric+Tan&D=Star+Wars+Framed+Serigraph+by+Eric+Tan&Dr=pPublished%3A1&LSID=5320033|10676026|skim14469X712999X7eed828087248a0522024f2013c26c3c#callURL=%252Fdisney%252Fstore%252FDSIProcessWidget%253FNtx%253Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%2526catalogId%253D10002%2526Nr%253DpPublished%25253A1%2526Ntk%253DAll_Shopping%2526Nu%253DpProductID%2526categoryId%253D306000%2526langId%253D-1%2526storeId%253D10051%2526Ntt%253DStar%252BWars%252BFramed%252BSerigraph%252Bby%252BEric%252BTan%2526N%253D110%2526templateId%253DWidth-3_4-ProductList%2526widgetName%253Ditems_listing%2526widgetObjId%253DobjItemsListing%2526zoneName%253D%2526groupByDimension%253D%2526initialN%253D0%252520110%2526sortKey%253D%2526navNum%253D96%2526numDim%253D&sort=sortProductsMostPopular>cost $399.95 each), but this also wouldn't be the first time someone had paid a high price for their fandom. Take a look at the posters and let us know what you think and which one is your favorite.

These look damn sweet, but seriously? $400 for a single one? Sorry, as cool as they look, that's just way too much. And why limit them to 100 of each one?

Why must you do this to me?

Now I'm gonna spend all day having to talk myself out of buying all three posters over, and over, and over again.

Okay, these are pretty cool.

However, the current focus on "gee, the original trilogy sure was great!" is concerning.

I don't want the new Star Wars films to be tributes. They need to take things in an interesting and original direction without being chained to Lucas' works; that's partly why the prequels were bound to fail.

Now, they are given the opportunity to go crazy...and I'm not seeing much of that. This series of movies will have a great impact on popular culture, and will no doubt inspire many children and young adults.

I worry that it will instead resort to gen x pandering. I'm already annoyed that my generation has resigned to resting in the past in terms of music, instead of supporting pioneer concepts.

Perhaps I am being too cynical, and that may well be the case, but it's not like I'm being given much of a chance here :/

I guess people still don't know what minimalism is. Also, not particularily good for whatever style it tries to be. It would work better for the prequels.

The only minimalist image/poster out of them is the second, maybe the 4th one its kind of on the fence leaning towards it not being, i take it the article writer doesn't understand what a minimalist picture/poster is.

Oh gosh, all of them appeal to me. I love the use of color in them and the emotion they capture... If only I had so much money that I could get all the art I'd want. *sob*

Wow those are truly stunning, but sadly my wallet couldn't repel a cost of that magnitude...

Not being photoshop does not make it minimalist. And Luke looks like Solid Snake in the Empire poster. And why so damn expensive? Definitely not worth the price but they look pretty cool for whatever they are trying to be I guess.
