Kevin Smith Secures Financing For Clerks 3

The Quickstop will re-open - it assures you

Everyone said that Kevin Smith was done with Clerks and The Askewniverse - Tusk [https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/9568-The-Fall-of-Kevin-Smith-Part-III&sa=U&ei=_uQpVMT_Oszl8AWq_YLoBg&ved=0CAoQFjAD&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNHuyI4C2XblP_Fzl1GGjK7-AxYM_Q] has evidently made the filmmaker-turned-podcaster a hot item for film financiers again - and, reportedly, he's set to use this revived relevance to bring back Dante, Randall and the gang for a third go 'round.

Cinema Blend [http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Clerks-3-Finally-Happening-Here-Why-67435.html] reports that Smith used his own Hollywood Babble-On podcast to announce that the internet-mania for his man-into-walrus horror flick had attracted big interest (and financial backing) for a threequel, stating: "So everybody that's like, 'He failed, he failed,' thank you I failed into Clerks 3."

The original Clerks, a low-budget black and white comedy set primarily in a convenience store in New Jersey, launched Smith as a filmmaker of note during the indie boom of the early 90s. After a series of films set in the same universe, Clerks II revisited the main characters later in life as employees of a fast food restaurant. There has been no solid confirmation, from Smith or anyone else, what the premise of a third film might entail - though it can be safely assumed that the writer/director's onscreen alter-ego Silent Bob would make an appearance.

Also unknown is where the film would fit into Smith's current crowded schedule, which is set to include two more genre films set in Canada and a two-part TV movie about a hockey player, Hit Somebody.

I dunno is there anything that can be done with it that has not already been done and to death by Smith himself?

As I understand it he's using this to wrap up his Askewniverse once and for all and to put the nail in the coffin of his directorial work, at least on his own films. He's stated he'd direct projects if asked to and they fit within a certain scheme but overall he's moving away from directing his own films.
I loved Clerks and would like to see one last go-round, only because it hits on a lot of points in my life. Way too close to home.

I love Clerks, but I absolutely hate Dante Hicks. I really despise the guy. There's never been a more disgusting character in the history of film as far as I'm concerned. He's a whiny little entitled asshole wannabe special snowflake. At least Randal knows that he's an asshole and he's fine with it. He revels in it. Not Dante. He's oblivious to how disgusting and whiny he is. And he's so boring. He never has anything interesting to say. I hope he dies in Clerks 3.

You may or may not know this, but you actually got your wish in the original cut of Clerks 1. Not sure the rules about posting inline youtube videos, but if you look up "Clerks Alternate Ending" you can see the original ending when the film aired on the festival circuit. Seems like Smith didn't have such a high opinion of Dante initially either.

I prefer him in the show. He was the straight man of the group.

I'm pretty sure he said in the DVD commentary for Clerks 2 that there would be a third one once he reached his 40's which he has.

I know that. It doesn't count. And honestly, I'm glad it didn't happen. That scene was way too dark for the tone of the movie. It didn't fit at all and I'm glad that Kevin Smith was smart enough to realize that.

Haha, yeah. Agreed on all fronts.

Kevin Smith confirmed earlier today in a press release "I am incredibly uncomfortable outside a set of well known tropes"

He still has plans to direct Hit Somebody, although that's going to be a two-parter miniseries last I heard.

Ah Hit somebody I was pretty excited when I heard that he was turning the absolute classic Warren Zevon song into something.

It's been so long since he announce he was working on it I almost forgot about its existence.

The world needs more Zevon!

Clerks 2 didn't need to exist, I still to this day don't understand why it was ever made so the news of a third iteration makes me cringe a bit. Clerks 2 did bring one scene to the table that made me chuckle though:

"Even the fucking trees walked in those movies."

I thought Clerks 2 was half of a good movie and another half of a shitty movie. Maybe clerks 3 can make one whole good movie and one shitty one i never have to watch again.

I'm thinking I may just watch Clerks again not watched it in a while.

Eh, it's just another movie. If it's good we'll enjoy it, if it's bad we'll be able to laugh at it.

Does no harm to us by merely existing. Let's root for it being worth watching though.

Or, maybe it'll complete the spectrum and be all shitty?

Good, Good/Shitty, Shitty
