Could Twin Peaks Be Returning to Television?

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/DAVID_LYNCH/status/518060411690569730]

Cryptic tweets from Mark Frost and David Lynch could point to a brand new era for the surreal series.

It may not be time to jump the gun and start holding celebratory Twin Peaks parties just yet, but something important could very well be brewing, and it's not just a cup of coffee from the Double R Diner. Both David Lynch and Mark Frost took to Twitter today to post the same puzzling tweet: "Dear Twitter Friends: That gum you like is going to come back in style! #damngoodcoffee." The quote in question is a reference to a scene from an episode of Twin Peaks where FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) experiences some telling hallucinations in a creepy area known as the Black Lodge. This could mean several things, but what it sounds as though they're trying to communicate is that a new Twin Peaks project is underway.

Looking back on one of television's quirkiest dramas has been one of the only ways to continue enjoying it since its untimely cancellation. But the time for looking back into the past for a healthy dose of the unique brand of surrealism Twin Peaks provides could be over, if those tweets from today are to be believed.

They couldn't have come at a better time, either. Rabid Twin Peaks or David Lynch fans have likely hungrily devoured books like The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer or The Autobiography of F.B.I. Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes. They've already purchased recent re-release Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery on Blu-ray and have probably rewatched it hundreds of times by now. It's high time for some new content.

Unfortunately, neither Lynch nor Frost have followed up with any additional details as to what they could be teasing, but the throwback quote to the popular foreshadowing as heard in the Black Lodge is indeed a curiosity. As more details surface, fans can continue speculating as to what it is they could be talking about. Hopefully (and you couldn't put this past Lynch) they're not actually referring to Bazooka gum going back into production.

Well as any Peaker knows this year marked the 25 years since Laura Palmer said "I'll see you again in 25 years"

And yes I know that episode was broadcast in 1991 but the show was set in 1989.

There was a rumor earlier this year that Netflick was going to produce a new series.

Let's hope this time it's good all the way through, ey? ;D

But seriously, on the one hand... Yay, more David Lynch Whatever. One the other... I sure hope he doesn't go all George Lucas on us.

Don't you fuck with us, Lynch. I mean it, I'll probably cry or something if it turns out to just be a cameo on a TV show or another goddamn book. Please let something great come of this, please...

Do not mess with us like that David Lynch! If I want you to mess with me, I'll watch your films... or honestly, Twin Peaks and Fire Walk with Me... again.

Please... don't... tease. Just make it true, make it happen and make it just as weird and discussion generating as it has been.

Lynch isn't a one-hit-wonder like Lucas, though. He has been making consistently... interesting films (and music!) for three decades.

Did I mention Lynch sings?

I would be interested to see how they deal with the time jump and the dead/reluctant actors. Recasts rarely please fans and I'm not sure I could get into a Bob not played by Frank Silva. The years have treated Ray Wise the best out of all the cast(have you seen Kyle MacLachlan?), too bad Leland is dead.

Oddly enough most of the women have aged better than the men. Mädchen Amick, Sheryl Ann Fenn, Joan Chen, Sheryl Lee and Peggy Lipton have all aged well. The log lady suspiciously hasn't aged a day, has she done a deal with the owls? Last seen, Bob had taken over Cooper, perhaps thats how they get around the death of Frank Silva. I suspect most of the cast will come back because most of them have not had stellar careers post Twin Peaks and frankly need the money.

Netflix said a while back that they'd be interested in reviving the show, so maybe...? [http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/netflix-bring-back-twin-peaks/] Fingers crossed.

I'd be cool with "Twin Peaks: The Next Generation". Give the old cast something to do, but focus more on younger new characters. I'd be very curious to see how Lucy and Andy's daughter turned out, for example. (yeah, I know, but whichever guy donated the genetic material, Andy most wanted to be the dad, so I give him the title.)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I really like the show, except when I don't. Particulary the part rather long part in season 2 where it felt like nothing at all was happening and the only thing that kept me going was the occasional reference to "The black lodge" and twin peaks feeling like an eldritich location. And then suddenly at the end it gets super interesting again just before it's over.

If Lynch can replicate the good parts of the original, I'd like to see it. OTOH, I'd be continually comparing to the original series.

I'm also reminded that "Mullhollland drive" was supposed to be the pilot to a series and since the series was never picked up, that's one of the reasons it gets super weird near the end.

Yeah, this would be awesome. I'd love to somehow be a part of it, too, as a comp/fx artist ... I wonder where it will be filmed?

Probably in Vancouver, but you never know.

I guess I could be cool with a "The Next Generation" sitch as long as The Man From Another Place (played by Michael J Anderson) still plays a large part (and dances). The constructs of the black lodge that we see gathered in a cabin in "Fire Walk With Me"[footnote]
[/footnote] would be neat to see in play, especially David Lynch's son[footnote]
[/footnote].

It is coming back... Why else were the holding auditions for it back in January? The "I'll see you again in 25 years," thing was also referenced in that article I read a while back.

On a different but same-ish note, I have just been watching the whole series this past week... Is it a coincidence or something more sinister? I don't know.

What I do know is the owls have been watching me and I keep hearing Bob scream in my dreams, but I think that is something else entirely.
