Top Fan-Requested Feature Coming to Xbox One in November Update

<youtube=fFLxZI2tezo>
Xbox One users will soon be able to customize their backgrounds, add more content to profiles, link Xbox live accounts to Twitter accounts, view trending content, and more.

The next Xbox One update will add features Xbox One users have wanted for a while. Personalization of backgrounds and extra content for profiles are coming to all Xbox One users in November, but these features are available to Xbox One preview program members now.

A video with Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb at Xbox and Xbox engineering team's Richard Irving goes through the details of the update, beginning with customization of the console's home background. Hyrb notes the most requested feature has been custom backgrounds The November update will allow Xbox One users to set a custom background from achievement art. After viewing the unlocked achievement, players can choose to set it as the home background. An update in October for the media player will also allow Xbox One users to set a custom background from any image.

"Gamer profiles" on the Xbox One also have personalization on the way. Users can add a location and a bio to their profiles. Furthermore, users can pick a "showcase" to display six items from achievements and game clips on profiles.

Xbox is increasing sharing by adding Twitter integration for posting game clips on users' Twitter accounts as well. After adding Twitter to an Xbox Live account, players can use the Share button on a game clip and select Twitter to write a tweet with the clip.

Other additions concern trending content, TV, store improvements, friends' game activity, updates to Internet Explorer, and gamifying to the Preview dashboard.

A full list of features and their details for November [http://news.xbox.com/2014/10/xbox-one-november-preview] are available to read on Xbox's site.

. . . This was really the most requested feature? I would have figured that people would've been requesting backwards compatibility more, if not disk wise then titles downloaded off of xbox live from the previous generation.. . . Are they working on that?

Backwards compatibility (however a slim chance that is) would be nicer than Twitter and profile info. The feature I'd like most is being able to stream/rip music from other devices/CDs and play them during gameplay.
Twitter and other social stuff? Not even a slight interest, but I'm not the majority, I guess.

You'd be surprised how little to general public care about backwards compatibility. Honestly, no mention of it from my friends, from non gaming forums I frequent, even on pro PS or Xbox forums people really just don't care from what I've seen and read.

I admit that that is rather disappointing. I was hoping that when I get the xb one in a few weeks that I would be able to actually play my old games. (Having been unable to since the 360 seemed to breakdown)

As I see it there are Three ways to do backwards compatibility.
First: Hardware - already too late, so that's impossible
Second: Emulation - it will require some ridiculously tricky coding to get the slow XO CPU to emulate the fast 360 CPU, so not very likely.
Third: Streaming - they will without a doubt implement this in the next two to four years, why not now? Because right now Sony is showing them exactly what not do, basically free market research. they'll push it out after Sony has figured out pricing and availability models.

This article has a sort of click batey name. I'm pretty sure the top requested feature is backwards compatiblity , either that or a new (not crap) banjo kazooie game.

6th in Console and Accessories tab, not sure where it comes in overall.

And nothing about Banjo Kazooie...

There's PS4, didn't see backwards compatibility on first two pages so gave up.

Actually even considering that these are just profile and customization changes, they're pretty nice to be honest.

So the Xbone can almost do all the things the 360 could now? NEAT! I'd rater have backwards compatibility and the ability to customize my home tab, but what do I know? I only bought the damn thing...

On the other hand, pretty much everyone I know, from heavy PC people to FIFA heads, decided to opt out of this gen because they would go to game stores and only see maybe five titles, two or three of which were also in the 360/ps3 aisles. Backwards compatibility would've meant people could've transitioned without actually losing anything in the process, but now the people who would've otherwise hopped aboard are a little reluctant to lose their entire game library and start over. The fact that they don't talk about it much could mean that they don't care, or it could mean that this gen turns them off enough to not merit discussion.

Well, they've opted out for now. Let the library build up and maybe next year they'll jump in or maybe the year after. Buying a console within the first year is always an unwise investment for some. You also don't lose a library, you can keep your old console. I did because I have over one hundred games unplayed.

I must still disagree about backwards compatibility being something heavily requested though. Sony gave people a fully backwards compatible console in the launch PS3 model. It made the console too expensive, it had no next gen games and people didn't buy it. In the end Sony took it out, lowered the price and the console sold more.

Compare that with the 360 which had a very successful launch with no backwards compatibility. Honestly, you and I might care about backwards compatibility, but I really don't think the general public does. Look at the Wii U, a console that's fully backwards compatible with Wii games and accessories and no one every mentions that feature. Most people don't know it has that feature.

Brain: Pinky are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so brain but why did Microsoft not allow us to customize our Xbox one to begin with?
Brain: Wait what?

If I remember correctly the 360 did have a limited-backwards combatiblity, one such game would be LOTR:The Third Age. I will admit that my large game library from the previous gen has been making me hold out for a long while now.

Unlike what it may sound in forums where mostly older gamers hang out like this, backward compatibility is actually quite unimportant for most console gamers. Sony counted how many people used the PS3 backward compatibility and it was less than 2% of users.

Im quite keen to hear they're stepping up the customisation a bit more. I like my 360 dashboard, with my little avatar in his Breaking Bad outfit [http://images-eds.xboxlive.com/image?url=7OTVnZUMVj4OV2zUUGecWvn3U00nQQLfK7_kwpANogh32MaR_WifCl3hdHTOEqqv1eQI0PPc5L.wIBteym7WsqQFc5GFdOTdSXmpbUXx6ld8d8FzBDQaEHHMIPvToA5cPXshKvUm_PFsH1syd6GRayxlZn6ciDXe73wXPnd5WEU-&format=png&h=640&w=640] on my Saints Row 3 theme, was surprised to see the avatar take such a backseat role in the XB1 dashboard considering how much money they presumably make on its customisation alone!

Why bother customizing your background at all? You can hardly see the thing as it's being blocked by that shitty dashboard UI!
