Handsome Jack Will be Playable in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - Update

At a special Borderlands panel at PAX Aus, Randy Pitchford unveiled Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's first DLC character.

Update: We've now got some screenshots and information on all three of Jack's skilltrees.

The Hero of this Story focuses on the Digi-Jacks and giving benefits when they are used.

Greater Good has three Kill Skills which all stack to make it easier to recover from Fight for Your Life situations.

Free Enterprise is based on regular weapon switching and gives buffs accordingly.

Original Story: Well... not quite Handsome Jack, per-se, but the first Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel DLC character pack is entitled the "Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack" and allows you to play as a clone of Borderlands 2's main villain. Gearbox Software top dog Randy Pitchford revealed the DLC at a special Borderlands panel at this year's PAX Aus, and offered us a little bit of a glimpse into how Jack will play.

Jack's action skill spawns two Digi-Jack clones, who will fight by your side and can be upgraded through his three skill trees. Jack can also shoot enemies with wrist lasers, get buffs every time he picks up money (in typical CEO fashion), or even get upgrades for using guns made by specific manufacturers.

But perhaps the most hilariously useless talent in Jack's arsenal is "Inspire" - an ability that allows him to occasionally spout inspirational quotes (the likes of which anyone who played through Borderlands 2 will be familiar with). The Inspire talent does, as you would expect, absolutely nothing - no combat bonuses, no healing, no damage. Nada.

The pack will be available on November 11 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. It will set you back $9.99 as an individual purchase, or $29.99 bundled with three other upcoming pieces of DLC in the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass.

And the waiting for the Season Pass sale begins.

Maybe winter Steam sale, who knows.

This was already announced. I can't remember where or when, but I've definitely known about this for weeks.

Neat though.

Next thing you know, they'll patch the game so you only hear his inspirational quotes once in five thousand years, just like they did when they ruined Krieg's ranting ability.

...so he's a $10 joke character? $10 to basically play Dan Hibiki?
I'm in! *throws money at the screen*

If I had Pre-Sequel and bought Jack DLC, it would be just for inspirational quotes.

You can already get it for over 50% off on mainstream cd-key sites

It was leaked a little while ago, but this is the first time Gearbox has officially announced it. Thanks for your input though.

Oh so that's why Krieg became a boring mute...
Great job Gearbox. Can't think of a single reason why you'd do that...

Anyway, that's kinda cool, can see major issues with it not actually being very good against bosses, which is so often the case with Borderland classes. [See Maya 'My skill and half of my perks might as well not exist'].
Still, looks fun. Do add a small stat bonus to that inspirational quotes thing though, it'll make me feel more justified when I inevitably pick it.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for that!

I guessing that's Timothy Lawerence who we are really playing as.

Since I bought BL2 Game of the year edition meaning I got Gaige and Kreig for free, I'm not too sure wheather to fork out the small cash for the DLC character alone. I probably end up waiting for the entire DLC together once it's under a huge sale.

Now that I'd pay for. If only to see what outfits you could put her in. :)

While I'd like that, I don't see how that would work unless she(as a player character) were a similar clone as Jack or the sections of the game where you interact with her were completely redone.

Edit:

Springs' face to face interactions with a playable Moxxi would be interesting to say the least.

I have come to the conclusion that the season pass is a rip-off. In Borderlands 2 the season pass got your 4 full sized stories with multiple areas and new epic bosses for each one. Especially Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep was in a class of its own representing a definite high water mark when it comes to DLC. When it came to extra characters they were purely a stand-alone thing with the first of them given free to anyone that bought the game new. Now the character packs did cost 10 bucks but at least they were not one of 4 parts of a pack, so you could hold of for a sale or something.

Borderlands the Pre-sequel in the season pass 2 of the 4 parts are characters (Substitute jack that we are getting now and a character called Baroness later). This in a game clamouring for more content (being a little light on the content when compared to its predecessor). And making the first one a character? Really? The game is still new and I have only really gotten to play with 1 character... I got 3 more to play with. Why would I want another one?
Borderlands: TPS was a good step forward in terms of gameplay. The lower gravity and the Oz kits were great, and I hope to see them implemented for future installments as booster packs of some sort... perhaps with the ability to use them to boost sideways as well. The season pass however seems to cement the feeling of "cash-grab" that the game had before I tried it (playing it assuaged that feeling).

Alright, love this, totally going to buy it :D But being nitpicky, does it bother anybody else that he stands exactly like Axton in his skill menu?
