Latest PS4 Update Available Today to Fix Rest Mode Problems

The latest PS4 firmware update has caused many PS4 owners problems with their consoles being unable to start up from rest mode.

Sony has released an update to the PS4 that will fix the problems caused by the 2.0 firmware update, leaving several PS4 owners with consoles that could not start up from rest mode. People with this problem found they had to completely restart the console, and others reported their consoles had been bricked. The v2.01 update is "rolling out today," PlayStation Europe stated on Twitter today. The v2.0 update went live on October 28, introducing Share Play, renaming Standby mode to Rest mode, added video upload support for YouTube, themes, a USB music player, and better live broadcasting.

Beyond consoles becoming unable to turn back on from rest mode, PS4 owners have also encountered connectivity problems and volume problems. Rest mode replaced the previous Standby mode in the 2.0 update. It has the same function: suspending the PS4 for charging controllers and downloading games while the console isn't in use.

If you are having trouble with starting your PS4, Sony recommends booting the console in safe mode. [https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5044] Hard resets are dangerous as they may corrupt system data or brick the console.

To update your PS4, find system software update in the settings. The latest update is rolling out today.

Jeez, really Sony? The console has been out for a year and you've still got messes like this? How is it we still have all this technology and we STILL don't understand how it'll work despite designing it from the ground up? It boggles the mind.

I find it a little sad that Microsoft has been churning out update after update for the Xbox One, adding more and more features and the PS4 is still trying to fix major problems even if they were recenetly showing up.

Such a superior machine/company, guys.

Standby mode worked just fine before the update. It was probably the renaming of standby to rest mode that broke the feature. Shit happens. Although, I agree that Sony needs to catch up in the features department. There's a few key things I wish they would patch in (like media server and music player).

People were pissed all of lzast generation when Sony were the people churning out patches by the bucketload, so they're holding off on it. Which is why the 2.0 patch added so much and pushed them so far ahead of the Xbox One.

Doesn't patch 2.0 allow USB music playing support?

But did they finally fix their account system so I can upgrade my sub account to a master account so I don't have to keep going through my step-dad's account to buy things with my money that I made from my job? And so I can take advantage of all these great social features that are literally blocked off to sub accounts?

Because it would be great if they did.

This happens with all hardware on occasion, software can be so easy to introduce a bug with even when your careful. Add to the fact that from memory the software is actually developed and supported by a 3rd party rather than Sony itself you can see where issues can arise.

Glad to hear the patch fix was out quickly, I always use shutdown myself so it didn't effect me (and ironically been busy the last few weeks so PS4 hasn't even been on anyway saving me the issue regardless).

Really? Major problems? It was a minor issue that if you put your console in rest mode you had to manually restart it. Nobody ever had their console bricked they just overreacted without understanding what happened to it. Last generation however Microsoft did release a patch that literally bricked nearly all of the early 360s.

Except that was last generation. I'm concerned about this generation as it's the current one.

*sigh* You know, I really wouldn't care about this sort of thing and would give it all a pass if the Sony fanboys weren't so freaking smug and sure of their perfect console from the innocent Sony corporation.
