Marvel's New Secret Wars Will Leave "Universes Destroyed"

Marvel's new Secret Wars will involve 15 of the company's recently teased event books.

The past weeks have been one heck of a time for devoted Marvel fans. All told the famed comics publisher announced more than a dozen events over the course of October and during the beginning days of November. The big question surrounding all of the announcements, of course, is what they were all driving toward. Arguably the strongest belief among many comic fans was that the company was launching the books in question as part of the new <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137954-Secret-Wars-Returns-To-Marvel-Comics-For-2015-Announced-At-NYCC>Secret Wars mega event that initially kicked off its epic string of announcements. It would now seem that fans of this theory were dead on.

That, at least, is the indication of a recently released trailer for the event confirming that a total of 15 of its previously teased titles will be involved in the new Secret Wars. The video, which promised that universes will be "destroyed," indicated that Secret Wars will involve the following:

Planet Hulk

Infinity Gauntlet
Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies

These titles were show in the video taking over certain regions in the "Battleworld." The Battleworld, of course, also appeared in the original 1984 Secret Wars series where it was pieced together by the Beyonder to serve an arena for Marvel's heroes and villains. Marvel didn't share any details as to who and how the Battleworld will be forged. That said, it did reveal that the new special series will be launching in May 2015 and will feature writing from Jonathan Hickman and art from Esad Ribic. The book's covers will be produced by Alex Ross. We've reached out to Marvel to see if we can learn anything more.

Wait, did they ever actually say they were bringing back Old Man Logan? Could be interesting now that Logan's a step-dad to a Hulk.

I was the biggest Marvel fanboy for the longest time (from the ages of 7-30), but I have just about had it with their terrible writing and constant rehashing of more successful events. All this announcement did was completely sever my ties to the universe.

I hated Civil War, but thankfully Annihilation came along at the same time and it was amazing and Richard Rider became my favorite hero. Then they killed Richard off and replaced him with an annoying Poochy kid version...

I loved Spider-man, then One More Day happened and... ugh. But they told me I could read Spider-Girl if I wanted a married Peter, so I did. They cancelled that title mere months later (then killed off married Peter and MJ in the recent Spider-Verse event).

I was thrilled to see Nightcrawler return to the X-men after a painful absence, so he and his buddy Wolverine could bond over his return and things could find some sort of normality again. Then Wolverine decides it's his turn to die and the duo is once again broken.

Everything I love at Marvel they enjoy breaking, it would seem.

If I understood the trailer, the new secret war is having all of those selected alternative universes (story arc) Marvel team pinning one another?
An intersting idea but it is going to be confusing as hell as which characters/ team is from which universe????

So it's like the new 52, to make DC feel a little bit better about how much they cock their stuff up?

Does the "universes" destroyed really matter in cosmic scale when there are probably thousands alternate ones in both DC and Marvel?

They showed Old Man Logan in the video, so yes.

I don't mind Sam Alexander, but it's Nova. There's been thousands of them. Two is too many?

Also, almost everyone else who died in Annihilation returned sans explanation. Why is Rich still dead?

Sorry, I meant in the slate of all the Marvel series remakes. I guess this was first announcement for it.

I don't hate Sam either, but the whole point of Richard was that, out of the thousands of Novas, he became "Nova Prime", for awhile the ONLY surviving Nova after Annihilation, tasked with rebuilding the Corps, yet Worldmind grew an affinity with him to the point it didn't want to divest itself to any other Nova. By all means, we can (and did) get more, but Richard was the star.

The problem with Sam isn't that he exists; it's that he exists at the EXPENSE of a better character. I would love for nothing more than Richard to pop back up and serve as a mentor to Sam. Let Sam be Nova with the kiddies on Earth while Richard is off saving entire planets and galaxies like before. Green Lantern can run multiple books, and that keeps fans of Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, and John Stewart all very happy. Nova fans don't get the same treatment.

The recent story arc revealed that Richard sacrificed himself (implied) to become a door for his friends to go back home while he trapped Thanos. He failed to trap Thanos. It was a pretty bad story with lots of retcons, plot holes, and inconsistencies. Richard isn't "dead" per se... but he's now stuck in the worst kind of comic book limbo.

Oh sweet baby Jesus, I think I prefered it when there was no reason.
