Evil Dead Series Starring Bruce Campbell Coming Next Year

A ten-episode Starz original series continuing the Evil Dead franchise will debut next year with a Sam Raimi-directed first episode.

The Evil Dead series will never truly die. Since the first movie introduced Bruce Campbell as Ash in 1981, there have been sequels, video games, comic books, and even a 2013 remake of the original. Now Evil Dead is breaking new ground by making its way to TV; Starz has announced that a ten-episode series will premiere next year.

The show, officially titled Ash vs. Evil Dead, has Bruce Campbell reprising his role as the title character. Sam Raimi, acclaimed director of the films, has signed on to do the same for the pilot of the Starz show. As an "aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility," Ash is forced to "face his demons--personal and literal" when a Deadite plague threatens humanity. Campbell promises the series will "be everything [fans] have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor."

The Evil Dead premiered in 1981 and was followed by the sequels Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, as well as the 2013 remake simply titled Evil Dead. There have also been a handful of video games and comic books starring Ash, including several crossover stories in which he meets the Marvel Zombies, Friday the 13th's Jason, and Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy. After 33 years, Evil Dead shows no sign of dying.

Ash vs. Evil Dead will air on Starz in 2015 with ten 30-minute episodes.

Oh Christ, really?! The barrel is this low?! Were three movies 20 years ago not enough? God, Bruce must be in this 50s by now. It's okay to let it go, people. No one would blame you. Army of Darkness is a great movie, I'm glad we all agreement. But can we just leave well enough alone?

The only thing this show will do is ruin Ash as a character, embarrass Bruce, and drive a further devide between fans(impossible to please fans vs. desperate to like it nostalgic ones)

And how many seasons -scratch that, no way this lasts whole seasons- How many episodes do they think theyll get?! 4? 5? Or 13 and fans call it the greatest show ever. Then they petition for a movie and walk away with a whole omelet worth of egg on their faces.

Oh! You know what? This is just a way to get people talking about the movies before they do a reboot. Aha! Clever!

This will only end badly for everyone involved.

Watch a few episodes of Burn Notice, Campbell doesn't actually look that bad these days.

Well...the later seasons anyways. The earlier seasons took advantages of Cambell my making his character a wash-out drunk with a heart of gold and a sniper's eye. Just like the real actor! :p (I'm kidding, on the off chance that Bruce is reading this right now).

I dunno, Bruce is kinda grey and pudgy now... If he grabs anything other than a donut or a MILF, and says, "Gimme some sugar baby" It's not gonna be believable to me.

It's great to see that people are so optimistic these days!

But seriously, maybe wait and see the show before you start declaring certain doom for the franchise. And if you think this is the thing that will embarrass Bruce Campbell then you've obviously never seen My Name is Bruce or Man With the Screaming Brain.

I'm going to reserve judgement on this until I've seen it. I mean it could be good, or it could be freaking awesome. Time will tell.

Was the rock you were living under comfortable for you? They already remade the original Evil Dead last year.

And your whole post is just... ugh. Can't stand. There is nothing indicating that this series will be bad. It's going to have Bruce, Sam, deadites and humor. Sounds promising to me. No bad signs here. You wanna see bad signs, go to the topic that talks about Dr. Doom in the Fantastic Four reboot. THAT sounds bad. THIS sounds awesome. But of course we here are going to be grumpy cynics, because that's what all cool kids are doing.

First of all i'd like to say that the Dr Doom reinvention is a tragedy if true. But it's exactly the fact that such a ridiculous and pointless reboot might be true that discourages so many people. Basically Hollywood has become shallow, pretentious, risk averse and disconnected from modern movie goers. The vast majority of movies are just bad, so very bad. Its hard to keep ones hopes up when you've been hurt so many times.

I actually enjoyed that one. Truthfully I enjoy just about anything with Bruce Campbell in it. Even the stuff that's complete garbage.

But Bubba Ho Tep is fantastic.

OT:
Fuck it, I'm excited.

Normally when things like happen I just get a little sad, but Bruce Campbell is still having so much fun just being an actor and doing his thing that I can't help but have fun with him.

So who knows. It might just be groovy.

Sorry, what was that? I couldn't hear you complaining because I was too busy doing a merry little gig regarding the Evil Dead news.
