Marvel Casting Actresses For Jessica Jones Netflix Series

Marvel seeking actresses for lead in hard-boiled Netflix series

Marvel's Jessica Jones [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/8467-Best-Defense] - the unconventional superheroine turned hard-boiled private eye.

Deadline reports [http://deadline.com/2014/11/jessica-jones-casting-test-krysten-ritter-alexandra-daddario-teresa-palmer-jessica-de-gouw-1201288589/] that four actresses of note are up for the role of Jones: Krysten Ritter, Teresa Palmer, Alexandra Daddario and Jessica De Gouw.

Ritter has appeared on Arrow. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/breaking%20bad]

One of the most modern (in terms of first appearance) major comic-book characters to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jessica Jones was created by Brian Michael Bendis as the lead of the mature-audiences title Alias in 2001. Her backstory (which retroactively added her presence to key earlier events in Marvel continuity) frames Jones as a super-powered individual (radiation accident) who had a brief career as a superheroine called Jewel that ended after she was traumatized by a horrific encounter with the supervillain Purple Man. Demoralized with the costumed life, she instead becomes a private-investigator working largely in and around the superhuman community. She subsequently began a relationship with Luke Cage (whose series is also now casting [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138696-Halo-Nightfall-Star-Being-Considered-For-Marvels-Luke-Cage-Netflix-Series]) which led to marriage and a child. Cage will reportedly appear as part of the Jones series before spinning-off into his own.

Daddario has some action background and De Gouw wasn't bad on Arrow, but neither Ritter nor Palmer strike me as very action-y. Unless they've been doing a lot of training, I definitely would rather see one of the first two.

It was pretty dark what Purple Man did. That's Rape of Ms. Marvel levels of wrong.
Might just be my favorite comic book in the super-genre. I was completely blown away. I wish there were more comics like this. With specific stories and developments instead of the tired weekly villain.

To be fair, the comic had very little action, it was more detective-y. I'd say Ritter would be a fine choice character wise.
