Irrational Games Rises From The Dead, is Hiring Again

BioShock developer Irrational Games is looking for an IT Manager and a Senior Programmer.

Irrational Games, the folks behind the legendary BioShock series, shocked us all by announcing it was official website [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132317-Irrational-Games-to-Close-After-BioShock-Infinite-DLC-Update].

The first posting calls for an IT Manager - nothing too out of the ordinary here, as the description lists regular IT stuff like setting up networks and system security. On the other hand, the second posting is for a Senior Programmer, and calls for a rather specific focus on AI programming.

From this information alone, we can't really discern what the studio is up to, however, the fact that the postings only recently went up means that the studio will probably be springing back into action at some time in the future.

When he announced Irrational's closure, Levine stated that "To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers. In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience."

We had assumed that Levine intended to restart under a new name, but from the looks of things, his new project will still be developed under the Irrational name.

We've reached out to 2K and Irrational for comment.

and what about all those poor bastards who were shafted? ah well

maybe this won't involve Levine at all but merely the "brandname" irrational, I suspect a Bioshock sequel might arise...for better or worse

The Irrational you know and love is gone. Don't believe this imposter of the same name!

Also this dev will be stuck making Bioshock games forever, it's so fucking obvious.

Zombies are never the same as they were before life.

I also don't think I'd want to be employed by one.

Ah, but on a serious note, I'd like to see what happens with these guys before making judgements.

I don't get why people are so surprised by this, the developer never shut down completely. Where is all this "back from the dead" stuff coming from?

Because most people acknowledged Levine's last comment of "We're closing down so I can start fresh with a new team" as that. Irrational Games closing down, Whether the company actually closed down or not doesn't really change that.

I know next to nothing on what actually happened though.

Well, no surpises there... Levine may be gone, but that doesn't mean Irrational is canned. The fact they are hiring probably means 2K fixed whatever legal mess kept Irrational Games and Levine Games as two different entities...

I wish them good luck. There are a lot of talented people there, and more jobs is always a good thing.

Oh this one is dirty, first you shit-can everyone that made your biggest games and then start hiring again.
But I am one of the few that understands why Levine called it quits, if you don't want your work muddied with corporate shit you need to cut it off while still decent.

The end is nigh, prepare the shelters, stock up on the food, get the guns and the swords, get the flamethrower and the Molotovs. The end is night the zombies are rising. See the first of their heralds. Prepare yourselves for the end. Whoever wants to survive, send me a PM at 1124-kiss-your-ass-goodbye.

when I started bioshock infinite I wanted the exposure to end after a short while.
then I realized the gameplay was bland-ish.
I still enjoyed a lot of the game and I hope the team makes some good or at least interesting games in the future.
also I really like the disclosure, not because I am very distrusting but because I find it interesting how large companies work, how intervened it all is.

I wouldn't say they're "rising from the dead," their name is just still kicking around as are a few lads who worked there and so they're trudging along with what they have under the brand. If the key people are gone though, they're still gone and I can't see them really needing to be around. Though I'm sure 2K will find a reason to keep them around that involves stamping the BioShock name on stuff, who would be shocked if what remains of Irrational is teaming with 2K Marin and 2K Australia to do BioShock 4: Re-Return to Rapture, again! *sigh*

Looks like they're going to create a BioShock 4, and probably have it be the BioShock 2 to Infinite. Err, yeah I don't like that. BioShock 2 barely got a pass from me, best not to make that again but with the significantly weaker game acting as you're jumping off point.
