The Witcher 3's Steelbook Art Will Leave You Bewitched

Artist Krysztof Domaradzki has produced a gorgeous collection of artwork for the steelbox game case included in the collector's edition of The Witcher 3.

If there's one thing that regularly fails to impress me, it's when a developer tries to draw people into buying a collector's edition with minor perks like steelbook game cases. Granted, this could just be me. There are probably plenty of people who jump for joy at the prospect of a snazzy metal case to hold their fragile game discs in. For me though, they've never stirred any real excitement.

That is, at least, up until now. You see, there's this game <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138950-The-Witcher-3-Wild-Hunt-Delayed-To-May-2015>coming out in May called <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/witcher%203?os=witcher+3>The Witcher 3 and, in addition to looking generally awesome, its collector's edition will apparently come packaged with some of the loveliest steelbook cases I've ever seen. The source of this loveliness? Polish artist <a href=http://studiokxx.com/Profile/solo>Krysztof Domaradzki.

Working with CD Projekt RED, Domaradzki has produced a series of high quality art pieces, several of which will find their way onto the game's steelbook cases when it releases later this year. The pictures themselves primarily depict the game's main cast, with a lot of focus being understandably paid to series-protagonist Geralt of Rivia. What makes them especially eye-catching, in my opinion, is the way that Domaradzki seamlessly blended enemies and environments with the characters themselves.

The collector's edition itself was originally revealed <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135066-The-Witcher-3-Releasing-on-February-24-2015>last year at a special online event held by CD Projekt RED. In addition to the steelbook case, it will include a hand-painted statue, a two-hundred page artbook, a cloth map and more. Sadly, most <a href=http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-one/games/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-collectors-edition/115386>major retailers are already sold out of it, but if you can find a place still offering it, the collector's edition can be pre-ordered for $149.99.

Yeah i'm with Charcharo here, i dont give 2 figs about the statue. But i want the rest of the stuff.
Especially the artbook and the steelcase.

hopefully i can get my hands on it the same way i did for Diablo 3 - Ebay the artbook of someone who just wants the statue.

Just checked both GameStop and Amazon and it would seem that the Collector's Edition for them has already all be pre-ordered out. Makes me happy that I pre-ordered it when it was announced. The art is beautiful. I wish I was that talented but sadly I am not even with the massive amount of time I have practiced.

Collectors Editions used to come with cool stuff like the audio soundtracks and behind the scenes making of DVDs. Now it's mostly just artbooks and a couple of DLC items that you'll use for maybe 5 minutes.

At least these are physical goodies. That's what I expect out of my collector's editions.

I'm still a tad miffed at Dragon Age Inquisition's "Deluxe" edition just being a few armor skins and weapons that you won't use the majority of the time.

Mass Effect 1's Collector's Edition?
A Mass Effect fiction book titled "Galactic Codex: Essentials Edition 2183"
A 36-page guide to the Mass Effect universe, including a Citadel timeline and a guide to all non-human races, biotics and the key locations in the Perseus arm of the galaxy
An additional Mass Effect art book titled "A Future Imagined"
A 36-page collection of BioWare's concept art for the game
A bonus DVD of exclusive Mass Effect background material and additional content including:
"The Vision of Mass Effect" documentary
"The Making of Mass Effect" documentary
"Interactive Storytelling" documentary
"Inside BioWare" documentary
18 Mass Effect themed gamer pics (three unique sets of six)
16 dashboard themes (four unique sets of four)
Ten songs from the Mass Effect soundtrack
Five historical Mass Effect trailers from X05 through E3 2007 and the official TV trailer
A demo for "Blue Dragon" and videos for "Lost Odyssey," "Halo 3" and "Halo Wars"
Design galleries featuring 600 concept images fully commented by the Art Directors

THAT'S what I expect from $80 collector's editions.

Honestly that is mostly content they give for free on YouTube anymore and a lot of people don't see interested in buying a Collector's Edition for it, for even with Mass Effect 1 they were upset about the "lack of content" with the Collector's Edition for it was just a bonus disk with digital content, it just didn't make news because they weren't part of EA yet.

The other problem is game prices have gone up by about $10 so even that wouldn't cost $80 anymore, but closer to $90.

To the topic at hand, there is no way I would buy a collector's edition of a game anymore, no game is worth $150 for extra content. I rather wait for a sale and buy four or five games at that price.
