New Professor Layton is a Multiplayer, Smartphone-Exclusive Title

Layton 7 is a take on the classic social tabletop game: Werewolf.

Level-5 has finally given some more info on its upcoming Professor Layton title, and... it's not quite what we were expecting. Rather than the singleplayer, story-driven puzzle RPGs that Layton fans expect, One Night Ultimate Werewolf [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127190-Layton-7-Coming-to-Mobile-and-3DS-Ditches-The-Professor]) in which seven participants try to deduce who the one secret werewolf among their group is.

CEO Akihiro Hino describes Layton 7 as "a game that brings the world of the Professor Layton series together with smartphones, with a new way to play." Each of the seven players will take on the role of one of the series characters, along with specific roles that are known only to them.

The in-game footage to the right is in Japanese, but shows how an average round plays out. Essentially, the non-vampires need to find out who the Vampire is, by communicating with the other players using keywords. Keywords in the game will be used to accuse and be accused by others of being the Vampire.

The game is split into two phases - a night phase where villagers and vampires can use their special abilities to influence the game - and a day phase where accusations, bluffs, and deceit fly among the players.

It's certainly a very interesting take on Layton, and if actually localized would make for a fun party game. It will release this summer in Japan for iPhones and Android devices.

Ummm... secret vampire? I mean, I understand the confusion, as both monsters have been reduced to shirtless teenagers in recent years, but still... ;)

Sorry, my bad. Of course, it's a secret werewolf in werewolf. In the new Layton game its a secret vampire, but my wording is a bit confusing.

Oh for God's sake. And let me guess, the new Mass Effect will be an MMO virtual trading card game.

GG everyone; rapture is finally here.

Even if the game looked like it interested me...

Android Phones!

I know they are trying to hit the mass market but you have just released a new 3DS and Layton has lived on the DS, have a little loyalty to your own brand.

So... why is it a Professor Layton game?

big gaming companies like this have no fucking clue how to make iPhone/Android games but they see big money in it so they make pay to win games and slap an IP on it and they think that's enough

seriously AAA stop doing iPhone games

Fuck this! They destroy the awesome Layton series for this rubbish?

And honestly "a game that brings the world of the Professor Layton series together with smartphones, with a new way to play." makes me think of Penny Arcades cartoon comparing Jim Lee teaming up with SoE to Krispy Kreme teaming up with someones butt to put shit in donuts.

I can't help but feel this is karma for the travesty know as Layton vs Ace Attorney. Fucking Layton ruined every trial he was involved in.

Sucks for Layton fans though.
I actually liked that crossover game but in saying so I haven't played the Pheonix Wright franchise yet (did bought the triliogy days ago but I haven't played).

OT- Seeing how the games on my phone are for solo only nor do I used it to multiplay others. I will skipped this one despite I have no problem with this game idea in the first place (Lasyton IS in the game judging from that video).
