Looking For Silent Hills P.T.? Buy A PS4 On eBay For $1500

If you missed the chance to download Silent Hills P.T., you can still buy the PlayStation 4 demo on eBay... for a heavy price.

<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137512-Silent-Hills-Concept-Trailer-Reveal-at-Tokyo-Games-Show>Silent Hills was perhaps the most anticipated horror game in recent memory - a Silent Hill sequel co-directed by Guillermo Del Toro and Hideo Kojima. At least, that was the case <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140601-Konami-Confirms-Silents-Hills-Cancelled-Silent-Hill-Will-Continue>before it was cancelled. Now the only thing we have to remember it by is P.T., an interactive demo that's quite creepy itself, but its license expired today. The only way you can play it now is if it's installed on your PlayStation 4... which is why a few gamers are selling their pre-installed P.T. PS4s on eBay for about $1500.

No, we're not making that up. As of writing, <a href=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Playstation-4-PT-Installed-RARE/121635302439?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D712ab79798054f2ab15fd44adca0dcea%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D251938423219&rt=nc&clk_rvr_id=822751472289&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true>there are two used <a href=http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS4-Console-with-P-T-Installed-/251938423219?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aa8b341b3&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true>PS4s listed on eBay.co.uk at £1,000 - roughly coming to $1500. Meanwhile, <a href=http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PlayStation-4-500-GB-Jet-Black-Console-6-GAMES-Last-of-Us-Dead-Nation-PT-/271851526035?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f4b9d1793&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true>eBay.com has a third for the far more reasonable price of $319, and includes a few extra games as well.

In fairness, P.T. truly did get players excited for a new take on Silent Hill. Originally introduced at last year's Gamescom, the demo was made available on the PSN Store where any customer could download it for free - a rare practice in the industry these days. That said, those larger sums are incredibly excessive... but who knows. Maybe there are gamers out there whose lives aren't complete without P.T. being around forever.

The P.T. eBay listings will be up for another few days, which at least is more than I can say for P.T. itself. But if Konami were to change its mind and rerelease P.T., how much would you be willing to pay for it?

I haven't cared for Konami since they published Turles in Time over twenty years ago. Can't say I am too upset about their gradual implosion. Never was really a fan of MGS or Silent Hill anyway.

I pity anyone willing to pay that much for a glorified demo. If you want it so bad just watch one of the 1,000 LPs out there.

Reminds of what happened with the game Flappy Bird, it gets pulled and suddenly everyone with a copy is out to cash in. Haven't played PT but I can't imagine it justifying more than a few bucks since it is after all a demo (I'll say as high as 20, see also Metal Gear Ground Zero)

I really wish an IP lawyer would explain why this happens.

I don't see movies being pulled from store shelves or digital platforms when the rights to that property are lost from the publisher. You can still buy the 2001 spider man movie online. Why does this happen with games?

Yeah, no.

I actually thought about downloading P.T. earlier today, but I didn't want to be reminded of what could have been. That and thinking about the sheer incompetence of Konami by screwing the pooch on this one.

I would love to know who would actually pay that much for a demo because that is beyond ridiculous.

For some reason, I feel like there's got to be a catch to all this...

Other than that, I'll just stay in my corner dumbfounded about all of the events that have lead up to something like this even happening in the first place...

Incoming removal of sale once the sellers are informed they must delete their electronic device of all previously stored data before shipping.

Did these fucking idiots not learn -anything- from the flappy bird debacle?

Actually that happens with movies. See: Netflix pulling movies when licenses expire. It does not happen with physical goods mostly because physical good contracts are basically if you were allowed to print it you can finish off selling them and later its just "out of print" and noones the wiser.

This is Ebay, noone cares. My friend once bought a used HDD and he got 3TB hdd with 1400+ pirated movies on it. Bad movies. like American Pie movies. people on Ebay dont give a fuck.

It's probably gonna sting if the HDD fails right after the box arrives at the door, because of violent jolts during shipping or just plain bad luck.

I would not spend even $300 on a system with some rare demo on it. Maybe I would spend that kind of money on a demo disc (Remember those? I miss demo CDs.) and, right after checking the demo out, I'd put the disc in an argon/helium filled box to prevent CD rot.

It does happen with movies and music. It happens so often with Movies and TV that Netflix keeps a permanently updating 'leaving Netflix this month' list.

Physical objects are much harder to make vanish since once a DVD is out at the retailer it's very hard to recall, nigh impossible once it's been sold (short of sending the secret police to search every home). Digital media is much easier, just click a button and remove it from the server.

This Ebay crap happens since so few games actually get a physical release now, it's not like there will ever be a DVD of FLappy Bird (or Silent Hills P.T) to go out and buy, so the drives with it installed are the only places it exists now (until someone sticks on the torrent-verse).

Konami being Konami.

This is almost tempting though -- I *do* have a PS4 with P.T. installed on it...

Yeah, it raised an eyebrow. There's a lot I could do with $1500...

Alas, I shall refuse the dark side and keep my honor intact.

Well hello! I was not aware there were people stupid enough to pay so much for what was once free. It is still on my HDD too. I just used up the last of my coke and hookers, so the devil inside agrees!

Ok, kidding aside, I thought the saved games and demos wouldnt launch without the owner's profile logged in. Or does that not apply to demos?

I wonder if they'll find any takers.

Thing is, there clearly is still a longing for a good SIlent Hill game... and it's regrettable that Konami no longer seems capable of giving birth to such a thing.

More like 5 euro/dollars really, maybe worth 10 if you are very into your survival horror. I played it thought it was original but then I don't do much horror. My friend loved it, he was extremely irritated with the recent cancellation to say the least . . .

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAno. I'm a really big Silent Hill fan and even *I* call bullshit on that.

That's distasteful and dumb. The P.T. should be FREE, man. -hippie-

No but for serious. That's ridiculous and I'd love to have the money to blow on something like that just so I WOULDN'T blow it on something like that.
