Street Fighter IV PS4 Edition Will Support PS3 Fight Sticks

Capcom has included Lab Zero Game's PS3 fight stick drivers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138171-Skullgirls-Dev-Makes-PS3-Fight-Stick-Driver-For-PS4] in the PS4 edition of Street Fighter IV.

When the PS4 launched, fighting game fans rejoiced at the promise of both a came to the rescue [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138905-Capcom-Street-Fighter-V-Exclusive-to-PS4-PC], offering a driver for PS3 fight sticks on PS4, and now, Sony and Capcom have decided to use said driver for the PS4 edition of Street Fighter IV.

"We've also included Lab Zero's drivers so that USFIV will support licensed PS3 FightSticks as well," said Sony in a Lab Zero [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/05/22/ultra-street-fighter-iv-hits-ps4-tuesday-new-enhancements-detailed/] sites after the game launches."

Sony also reminded us on a few more upcoming features of the remastered game:

Ultra SFIV on PS4 will be running at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second for all your fighting glory.
The PS4 version of USFIV will also include all DLC launched up to this point, including the most recent Vacation and Wild costume packs.
A few of you hardcore Street Fighters out there said that there was minor input lag in the controls of Ultra Street Fighter IV for PS3. Well, don't worry: We've eliminated it to make the PS4 edition the ultimate version on any platform!
The price is $24.99.

The game is set to launch on May 26.

Definitely a huge courtesy they did there, considering fight sticks are pretty fucking expensive in general. I'm a pad player in every fighting game I've played but it's nice to see that they did this for those who don't want to make another several hundred dollar investment just to have a PS4 stick.

Just gonna keep playing USF4 on PC though. Same experience.

Why were old fightsticks "incompatible" in the first place?
The ps4 has the same controller layout with no additional buttons except for that social media button from what I remember and it can still communicate with the console so the ports and wireless frequency thingamajiggers are technically still compatible; all it takes is some software.
Proprietary hardware is weird.

It has something to do with the drivers. However, fortunatly, Mike Z ( the maker of Skullgirls) devolopped a way to have PS3 sticks work on PS4, and it giving it to any developper who wants it for free. Because he's a bro like that.

OT. I already bought a stick that is compatible with both PS3 and PS4, it's a better stick than the cheap one i had on PS3, so i'm happy.

However 25$ for yet ANOTHER release of SF4, comon now, this is becoming a bit much, especially if Street fighter 5 is coming out in the current fiscal year.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Street Fighter IV was released six years ago, and has had several re-releases, upgraded editions and whatnot already. What are they going to port to next-gen next? Bioshock?

The PS4 requires a security chip on controllers before it accepts them, or a special driver in the game code (approved by Sony) that recognises the older hardware. It's why for example Thrustmaster steering wheels almost all work (they have the chip), and Logitech's don't. Logitech could fix this by releasing a dongle to make their old hardware compatible, but they've apparently stopped caring about console hardware (or gaming controllers in general... there's still no G29 in sight).

The chip is also one reason why there are (AFAIK) no Dualshock 4 clones out yet.

Ah, a "security chip" to secure sonys bottom line it is then.

~shrug~ You're talking street fighter though. Street fighter 2, first released in 1991 has 6 distinct versions not even accounting ports.

And 5 of those 6 versions have been ported to between 5 and 7 different consoles each...
That puts street fighter 2 at somewhere between 30 and 40 different releases spanning 1991 to 2006, though granted the last few are a little dubious to include given they are downloadable/retro compilation releases...

Heh. Street fighter... >_<
