In which case... I'm assuming it's gone wrong at some point, putting the participant(s?) in danger. And Professor Hamish is working to fix it.
And now the question on my mind: Could Jenn be the only participant? Is our Zelda T-shirt wearing friend just another NPC, with a bit more 'processing power' than most?
Which all raises a further question - how much value should we place on these NPC lives? Are they aware? Or just simulating awareness? (How does one tell?)
EDIT: And, no, I haven't read Heinlein's "Number of the Beast." I've read Revelations though, so I know roughly what that reference is... And it's making part of my brain go "NopeNopeNopeNopeNope"...
