Well, I learned some things I didn't know before!

I would like to throw in my own *WAY BETTER* thing, since the SW game with the expansion/update with the new race...Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War was utterly ruined by Soulstorm. As much as we enjoyed the horrificly narmy voice acting, pretty much every change they made to the game's functioning was ill conceived, the campaign mode was garbage, and it had more bugs than actual features...

If you ever want to get into the original DoW games, try Dark Crusade. Penultimate is best!

Try the Dawn of War Ultimate Apocalypse mod.

I am intrigued. Do go on.
Some enterprising modders got their hands on the dev tools, and have been steadily releasing patches to fix content. They also added Tyranids as a playable faction. And Titans, lots and lots of Titans.

There was an update to Eve: Online that broke the game by breaking peoples computers.
A naming glitch caused the patch to delete a critical system file in some older windows operating systems. Resulting in a machine that could not boot up.

With the volume of SW games on that list, it looks like George Lucas was involved in the patching process

Dear God the NGE.

That is the first time I can remember really throwing my toys out of the pram over a game update, it was also the last time I ever paid a subscription for a MMO.

It didn't so much break the game as make an entirely new game. Sure it worked, but it went from being Galaxies to being Star WoW, I stuck it out for five days after finding my Bounty Hunter completely deleted and all his repair and mechanical abilities gone forever. Didn't hit me nearly as hard as the people who'd sunk time into Beast Master though, not just no longer playable, but deleted like it never existed, pets and all.

Plus it made trial of Obi Wan unplayable twenty four hours after it's release, that was helpful.

Still, cutting your player base by ninety percent in five months will at least make you memorable...

I would honestly have put Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and the RR100/Warpforged patch that single handedly killed the entire idea of balance in the RvR (which to be fair was struggling already) and introduced one of the most tedious grinds that went far beyond the original cap of Renown Rank 80, and yet didn't make a new tier to ensure the ludicrously powerful RR100 players couldn't steamroll anyone coming into tier 4 (Which started at level 35 RR 35ish) so you can see just how lopsided the late game got.

The SW:ToR one is really missing something; when the game launched the PvP was unbearably unbalanced in favour of the Agent and Trooper class, with PvP between these two specific classes being a death sentence unless it was a full on gank. Agents also had the clear advantage over Troopers. They may have made several mistakes in the act of patching the game, but nerfing the Agent and Trooper class was one of the things they needed to do.

I expected Dark Souls II to be on there. Unless they fixed it so magic was useful again. I heard it got nerfed super hard and practically ruined the cleric class.

Only offensive cleric magic that got nerfed, all the lightning spells in particular. Soul sorcery and dark still work, outside of the dlc where everything has insane magic resistance ofcourse

Hmm. I might go back and play as one then. I wanted to but then Pat from TBFP went nuts over the magic patch so I assumed it rendered it useless. By now I should learn to know Pat doesn't know what he's talking about half the time :p

You mean Dawn of Eldar, Eldar Crusade? Where every race was Inferior to Eldar, and nothing but Eldar were even tested in play? The update that broke Every Assault Unit?

Eh. Terraria isn't THAT bad.

I mean, it's true, you don't get new things in old worlds, but on the other hand, the same character can exist in multiple worlds, and take their inventory with them between worlds.

This means you can take key high-level items (powerful armor, the high-level crafting stations, and so on) into a new world with you, or... You can create a new world, hunt for whatever you feel like getting from it, then drag that stuff back to your old world with you.

It's of course more tedious either way, but it's better than nothing. XD

(and the alternative would almost certainly break savegames created before the patch, so... You know. It's a hard thing to avoid for the developers)

Galaxies was the greatest face palm of them all, NGE and CU... It wasn't just going from 34 classes to 9 either, because you could blend classes however you wanted before, giving you unlimited customization. SOE constantly ignored bugs and other issues that needed to be fixed and pushed a neutering update that was also broken. All just to try to ape WoW. The popularity of WoW has been a massive blight on the gaming landscape for a decade.
