I've never been a fan of Schumer, so I didn't know if a Apatow script and Hader support would be enough to make it a decent movie for me. I guess not; if it relies on the talents of the actors rather than a good script, I don't think I could handle it.

Ooh haven't seen a good, adult comedy for some while now. I do not know of Amy Schumer, is she mainly an American star? Being British therefor subconciously miserable even when happy, comedy has to be of a high enough standard to overcome the sombre conditioning. Basically what i'm trying to say is that I maintain an uneasy distrust with American comedies before seeing them, due to experiencing many (sitcoms especially included, but not all) that use weak gags that still seem popular to their audience, but I just sigh depressively and think of uncut heroin instead.
Ok too far there maybe, but still...even though humour is a highly subjective thing, would this film work for a cynicalish, non-American observer?

Wow, that question was a lot harder to word than I expected. Probably shouldn't have had that glass of wine!

But now for the REAL question: Is it funnier than The Hangover?

Trainwreck - Amy. Freaking. Schumer.

Trainwreck is a reminder that no matter how many problems a comedy has, if it's really funny, they cease to matter.

Haven't seen the movie itself, but I've recently been exposed to Amy Schumer's comedy. I don't think I've found anyone less funny since I saw a Dane Cook routine. Look up the Amy Schumer Star Wars shoot, if you find that hilarious you'll probably like her comedy. If you don't, it's probably not for you.

Of course, I don't know how much input she had into the script, so I may be wrong

If you like classic British humour or subtlety, Schumer is not your speed. Most of her jokes are of the "bodily functions are gross, I'm a disgusting woman who likes sex stuff, come at me bro" style that's daring you to be offended while not actually saying anything that's controversial, just impolite. At best, she'll say that women in Hollywood have unrealistic expectations about their age/looks, but never really take the jokes anywhere exciting.

Sounds a fair bit like some girls I know already. Maybe she is a fresher experience for American audiences? It depends on the delivery as there have been many a good joke fail on a flat performance whilst a low hanging joke hit the mark. I still enjoy South park and Frankie Boyle on occasion, the toilet humour becomes a colourful static in face of their social commentary. Sophistication isn't necessary for comedy to succeed. Comedy is a wriggly idea to grasp with words and wine. Ah fck it, maybe youtube will produce some clips I can judge with these beady, british eyes. Thanks for the heads up!

So pretty much the female equivilent of bro comedy? Eh, someone was bound to do it. I saw a skit on her show that involved her being a secretary trying to keep people out of her boss' office. Wasn't really funny to me.

I have not seen this movie, and likely will not, at least until I can rent or Netflix it. I almost never see comedies in theaters, I reserve that for action films that require the big screen experience.

BUT, to be honest, I really hope this movie succeeds. I quite like Amy Schumer, and movies featuring a female lead AND a female head writer are rare. I hope it's good, and if it is, I hope it shows that we need more Amy Schumers these days.

Here's a short sample of Amy Schumer:

on Fallon recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh1ige7lVyU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHqRhMvFmnk
On Ellen a while back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgX2HY2iyVQ

I have been a fan since she competed on Last Comic Standing, but for some reason every guy says she's not funny at all. Well except Colbert, Apatow, Fallon, Letterman, Stern ... . BTW it's not an Apatow script; Amy wrote it with his feedback, and he directed.

My mom loves Amy Schumer's comedy...
I love Judd Apatow-related films...

This seems like the perfect Mother/Son movie in my opinion... Too bad I'll have to wait until it's rentable because my mom's not keen to watching movies in theaters nowadays...

I already love Amy Schumer from Parks and Rec, and I love John Cena, so sign me up.
You're thinking of Amy Poehler. Amy Poehler is great
Oh. Poop.
They do look kind of similar. Or it might just be my brain going "THere's only one blonde pretty lady in comedy, right?"
Brain, you need to be slapped.

It's funny, I'm not a big Amy Schumer fan, and normally it wouldn't bug me, but Hollywood and the media seem to be really, really intent on "making her happen". Every time I'm on Facebook there seems to be 5 different new articles about "16 times Amy Schumer nails it!", "Why Amy Schumer is the best comedian out there!" "Words of advice from Amy Schumer!"

I guess it kind of bugs me because a lot of people seem to act like she's some sort of trailblazer, but as far as I can tell her primary schtick seems to be "yeah I'm a girl and I like having sex, so what?", which has already been done 1000 times.

The "m'lady app" skit was funny, though.

Agreed. She is getting overexposed.

It was. I also LOL'd at the skit about 50 Shades of Gray, when the women exit the theater with various vibrating devices, getting bigger and weirder until one drags a washing machine along with her (as the haz mat team goes in to clean up).
