Google Removes Forced Google+ Integration For YouTube

Your Google+ profile will no longer be your YouTube identity.

So it looks like that said Google's vice president of streams, photos, and sharing Bradley Horowitz [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134046-Rumor-Google-Planning-to-Stop-Forcing-Google-Integration].

If you're wondering what all the hubbub is about, a couple years ago Google forced all YouTube users (both creators and commentors) to create and integrate Google+ accounts [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128145-YouTube-Comments-Get-a-Makeover-From-Google] in order to continue using the service. The reaction was mostly negative, due to the fact that A.) very few people use the Google+ social networking features and B.) Google+ accounts are searchable on Google, whereas anonymous YouTube accounts are not.

The change essentially means you'll soon be able to use your standard Google account to share content, communicate with contacts, create a YouTube channel, and so on.

"We've also heard that it doesn't make sense for your Google+ profile to be your identity in all the other Google products you use," continued Hororwitz, confirming that the change won't just be affecting YouTube, but all other Google products including Gmail and Google Drive.

If Google forced you to create an unwanted Google+ account just to use YouTube, the good news is that Horowitz also promised to "offer better options for managing and removing" Google+ accounts, meaning you'll soon be able to wave goodbye to your account for good.

Do not, however, rush out and delete your Google+ account right now, as the company has warned that deleting it at the present time will also delete your YouTube channel... so just be patient for a little while.

Finally. Only took them like what, five freaking years to realise how bad of an idea that was?

Well I can now comment on YouTube once more.

Problem is, I don't bother reading them at all now. Google forced this behaviour, now it's a habit. I choose to keep.

Just one question though; will the Youtube app on my phone be useful in tracking comments?

Because one of the things I like about the integration was that I was able to check replies to comments on Youtube on the Google+ App. Personally, I never got what people were getting their knickers in a twist about, no one forced anyone to actually use Google+, just keep to your Youtube'in and everything was fine.

Because without Google+, you were limited to watching and uploading. Anything else? Nope, sorry, must use Google+ even if you don't want to and even if Google+ is completely useless for that...

Still don't see the problem, just create a dummy Google+ account as you had created a Youtube account before that? Don't want to use Google+ timeline, posts or sharing stuff? Simple, ignore it and simply keep to your Youtube'ing.

YES. THIS IS GOOD.

Finally I can make my YouTube channel a free-floating entity owned by multiple people.

I didn't see the big deal about G+, I didn't see the harm. I don't see the problem or celebration in its "removal."

Well, I don't even want to do that because it's still a waste of time that otherwise prevents me from something I could do previously without that bullshit.

I would say "About dang time", but I'll hold off on the full celebration until they actually bother to do it and it's not just them saying they're going to do it.

Has it really been five years?

I wonder how much data all those extraneous accounts created and how much it has cost Google to store all that useless unusable data. I created an account to keep arguing on Youtube, false details and all, and have never touched it since, so much valuable data for advertising you guys!

So... Yeah? I'm not sure how high my indifference can be at this point...

Other than that, the whole Google+ schtick can still could be an optional thing, right? I mean, I'm sure there's some people that would like that in some way, shape, or form right?

Oh right! G+, that social network you were forced to join by Google and then promptly forgot about.

*insert desert joke*

Kind of showed a big shift in philosophy from Google. While this things were optional, they won't from promoting keeping your personal identity safe to 'hey everyone you should use your real name!'. Google was a company that started with a "do no evil" motto but this was the point where they really gave in to shareholders/advertisers to start doing Facebook style profiling & tracking to create targeted adds.
