So...can anyone name a remake/reboot/modern-day-sequel to an 80's movie/franchise that has actually been worth a damn? Because I sure can't.

Now now Hollywood has set its sights on Big Trouble in Little China. Why, Hollywood? Why must you shit all over everything we used to like?

Apparently a few people liked Judge Dredd. Also, does Mad Max: Fury Road count? Other than that I'm not too sure. Personally, I'm of the mind of rebooting/remaking flawed/shitty things is the way to go for movies, you piss of less people and if you still fail, you can always just say the source material gave you nothing to work with.

...Maybe they should have done a Christmas Vacation, instead... No, wait! FUCK!

*sighs* Other than that, how dare those trailers use songs that make this movie sound more interesting than it should be for something so obvious?

Yeah, I'll give you Mad Max. I haven't seen it myself, but everything I heard from people that had was that it was awesome.

This. Even that 'classic' one wasn't too great, but if you expected something good, i'm sorry I guess. But I don't think it even had a chance of being decent.

I wasn't even aware this was connected to National Lampoons' Vacation until I read this review. Didn't think it would be funny or good by the ads, and evidently I was right. At least the people who made the trailer where being honest.

I don't 100% know if these were 80's movies, but...

-Dawn of the Dead. I like the original, but I think the reboot is 10x better, largely because the Zombies in the original Dawn of the Dead were about as intimidating as an old lady with a walker rushing at you.
-Although it was pretty different, I thought the new 'Evil Dead' was pretty damn good.
-Don't know if this counts, but there was a hysterically awful "Captain America" movie released in the 80's, so obviously the new ones are much better.
-Again, arguable if it counts, but the Nolan Batman movies are light years better than the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney ones.
-And finally, Pirahna is 1000x better than the original.

But by and large, I agree, the reboots for Robocop, Total Recall, the Hitcher, and now (God I can't believe they are doing this) Big Trouble in Little China were all awful.

I was afraid of this. But it's not like the original Vacation had a whole lot of clean jokes itself, either.
At least it's not Pixels. Blech.

Don't forget the 007 reboot, albeit that was 2006. Nobody had any faith in that and now Casino Royale and Skyfall are often considered two of the best Bond films ever.
Karate Kid. But in China, shouldn't that have been Kung Fu Kid?

I have major quibbles with the Star Trek movies, but they've been fun.

PS: I thought there was a lot of fun in that trailer. Too bad it isn't good.

All the comedians and writers who understood this type of humor died of cocaine overdoses in the 80s.
