DC Comics Goes Looney Tunes With New Variant Covers - Update

Tweety Bird, Pepé Le Pew, and Duck Dodgers will all be featured on DC Comics variant covers later this year.

Update: DC Comics has finally revealed the full 25 variant covers, making it so much harder to pick favorites. We've got Wonder Woman singing in the opera with Elmer Fudd, Road Runner and Speedy Gonzales outrunning the Flash, Harley Quinn doing Gossamer's hair, and Black Canary in a line-up with most of Looney Tunes' bird characters.

The full list of images has been added to our gallery, while the titles are available at the bottom of the post. That's all, folks!

Original Story:You wouldn't know it at first glance, but <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/looney%20tunes?os=looney+tunes>Looney Toons characters like Daffy Duck or Elmer Fudd are as old as comic book superheroes - <a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porky%27s_Hare_Hunt>Bugs Bunny himself unofficially debuted the same month Action Comics #1 was published in 1938. With such long histories, it's surprising they haven't been in more crossovers together, especially since Bugs and DC Comics are owned by Warner Bros. Still, at least someone at WB recognizes the appeal between these characters, and will bring them together for <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/139717-Marvel-Comics-Puts-Howard-The-Duck-Into-What-The-Duck-Variant-Covers>a comic book variant cover campaign this November. And a few images look so natural, you'd almost assume each Looney Tune was in the core book.

While the full list of covers isn't clear, DC Comics has unveiled the first five images. Catwoman #46 will have Tweety Bird realize he's been nabbed by putty tat Selina Kyle. Batman Beyond #6 sees Terry McGinnis team up with Duck Dodgers of the 24th and 1/2 Century. In a homage to the classic Superman vs. Mohammad Ali cover, Superman will get back into the ring with the Crusher. And in a unique twist, Pepé Le Pew tries to escape a Tamaran paramour in Starfire #6.

But speaking personally? I'd say my favorite is Sinestro #17. Here, Green Lantern's nemesis joins Wile E. Coyote to light a colossal cache of Acme dynamite, each self-assured that this plan can't possibly go wrong. All they need is for their "World Domination" sign to say "Uh oh!" on the other side, and it would be complete.

You know what, forget comics covers. Can we get these characters in superhero shows or movies? I mean, how amazing would it be for Bugs to take a wrong turn at Albuquerque, find Superman v. Batman's Lex Luthor, and munch on a carrot with a casual "What's up, Doc?"

"Nice" to see Starfire is doing what Starfire does best I do like all the designs though. Pretty neat little collectors item for people who are interested.

You know how stupid that would sound if the genders were reversed and you called a girl a lesbian for resisting a man's advances?

Starfire looks cute there, but also... very human? Or at least, indistinguishable from most human heroes. /shrug

He isn't used to the attention. Its a reversal of what normally happens.
Agreed. Pepe is clearly a Top and he's not going to submit to being a Bottom in and D/s relationship. Also, I think Starfire has to walk under a white paint roller to get a stripe down her back before Pepe is interested. He has traditionally only been interested in skunks--or cats that somehow wind up looking like skunks.

Wow. No Flash/Roadrunner crossover? I mean it's a little on-the-nose, but still. Seems like a no brainer.

Ah well.

I forgot that Waner's are with DC comic for a minute there (no Batman:TAS to remind me).

Also it seen odd seeing Sinestro with Wile E. Coyote.

Very nice, I love all the crossovers at work here. It's hard to pick a favorite though...

I never realized I needed a picture of Wile E. Coyote and Sinestro in my life. But I guess I did.

Oh my glob! Most of these are fucking perfect! Can I just have a book filled with just these variant covers and then some?

So with all of them out, some of them fit well (the Sinestro and Black Canary ones are a personal preference), some look like the Looney Toon characters were slapped on (Cyborg, Green Arrow and The Superman/Superbugs being the most obvious) and the Michigan J. Frog one looks like it was poorly cropped out from another comic and slapped on.
