I'll be honest: I was worried this film was just going to be an excuse to say, "Fuck Tha Police" with a few recognizable names slapped on top to toot their own horn. I'm glad to hear that the casting and performances are actually solid, it makes me want to see it and find out if I can still connect to that music.
I know nothing about rap and hip hop (I know, it's shocking that this suburban white boy knows nothing about rapMarter said:

Will be watching this, especially since I suddenly dived in headlong into rap recently.
Sounds like a good movie, and Compton always deserves the coverage.

I just saw this movie several hours ago... This movie was the shit! It gave respect to the late Eric "Easy-E" Wright as well as having a few "cameos" for those already in the know about the group's influential history... I can agree that this could have been done as a miniseries just to go more in-dept with MC Ren and DJ Yella, for example, but I feel as a movie, it definitely got the better benefit of exposing it to everyone willing to give it a shot...
Other than that, at the theater I went to go see this movie, there were many people of various ages watching this movie... with young children to couples as old as Cude and Dre themselves rapping along with the movie... It was a dope experience, if I do say so myself...

I am a dabbler in various forms of rap, not particularly mainstream cliched rap though. But after seeing that film about Biggie, the coming of age drama...it too was so powerful that anyone not interested in the music will still feel for the characters and enjoy the experience. I can't for the life of me remember what that film was called, but the main actors portraying him were fantastic. You could follow every little emotion conveyed as if you were them. I think I shall see this film. Musician biopics are my bag anyway.

Tha police didn't force them to sell drugs, shoot black people and beat black women (to death!). They decided to do and/or glamorize that all on their own. Plenty of black people lived far better lives than them in the same circumstances.

Was the bit where one of them threw a reporter through a door because "she deserved it" in the film? How about To Kill a Hooker?

This isn't rage and I don't know if he murdered anyone. I did not know at the time he bragged about killing looters from the top of the superdome, in retrospect though yes. Whitewashing those parts of his history was stupid as well.martyrdrebel27 said:
