Sometimes the best way to remember someone we've lost is in a game that we love. Here are eight great examples of just that.

Wow, talk about timing. The STO fleet (aka guild) I belong to recently lost one of its founding members. I didn't get a chance to know him, but some of my fellow members were good friends. The current fleet heads have renamed our research lab after him to honor his memory.

I dropped by Vulcan to pay my respects to Mr. Nimoy shortly after he died. Things went well...until Starfleet Dental (a notorious trolling fleet) decided to crash the event by dropping Subspace Party Amplifiers everywhere. For the uninitiated, it's a consumable disco ball that forces everyone in the vicinity to start dancing. Thank God for instance changing...and Subspace Party Nullifiers (an easily obtainable item that makes the wielder immune to Amplifiers).

It's worth noting that there are memorial plaques on Earth Spacedock and Qo'Nos as well that list all the major actors that have passed away along with Gene Roddenberry himself.

Not in games, but I liked what Order of the Stick did.

There was a user called Wrecan who was a big member of the forum community. When he died Rich Burlew asked his wife if there was anything he could do. She said that he'd have had loved to have a walk on cameo of a character named Wrecan, Rich Burlew obliged, and went one further, the character has been in the story for a number of strips now.

I think the most touching part is that Wrecan started a forum tradition of tracking the number of strips every character in the comic shows up in. Now he has his own entry in that list.

Gaming might have a community that is worked up too easily, but that same behaviour leads to some truly wonderful things coming from our little sphere. It's always great to see these little things.

Two WoW memorials and you don't have the original Shrine of the Fallen Warrior [http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Shrine_of_the_Fallen_Warrior]? This was a memorial that they wanted held so sacred that it actually has an aura around it that disables all of your abilities so that people can't PvP near it. They also gave a nod to him in a Star Craft 2 cutscene where Jim Raynor takes the dog tags off of a dead marine with his name [http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Shrine_of_the_Fallen_Warrior].

WoW is a boatload for it. The Shrine as mentioned before (and I think it's still there after Cataclysm), Robin Williams/Ahab as mentioned in the article, the Night Elf Huntress in Shattrath, the Alliance Commander in the Alterac Valley tunnel, I believe one of the tombstones in Southshore has a real person's name on it (and is still there in Cataclysm), the Bridenbrad questline especially.

I remember the Spock statue.
Stood there for an hour with everyone after it went up.
...
Pardon me, I need to go have another moment.
