Castle Crashers: Remastered Announced - Free to Owners of The Original

For a limited time only, you can pick up Castle Crashers: Remastered for free if you own the original title.

Castle Crashers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/castle%20crashers] was a fun little 4-player side-scroller in the vein of those old arcade classics like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Final Fight. Originally released back in 2008, it is starting to look a bit dated these days. Fortunately, developer Behemoth has just announced a Remastered edition, which for a limited time only will be available completely free-of-charge for any Xbox 360 owners who own the original title.

"Castle Crashers Remastered on Xbox One will be $14.99 which is our usual cost of admission for this classic game baby. However...if you've previously owned Castle Crashers on Xbox 360, you shall receive our Thank-You-For-Saving-Our-Lives-That-One-Time special price of FREE THROUGH SEPTEMBER 20th with current Xbox Live Gold membership," said Behemoth on its website [http://blog.thebehemoth.com/2015/09/04/ccrreleasedate/].

After September 20th, you'll still be able to get the remastered edition of the game for a discounted $5 if you own the original.

As for what the remastered edition consists of? Here's the summary provided by Behemoth:

New multiplayer mini-game called Back Off Barbarian
Five times larger texture sizes than the original!
Twice the framerate of the original! (60 frames per second)
Performance updates, gameplay tweaks
Online multiplayer performance updates
Ability to find games easier and quicker online

Unfortunately, we didn't hear if the remastered version would contain any of the paid DLC [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107547-Castle-Crashers-DLC-Beats-Up-Breast-Cancer] from the original, or if players would have to re-purchase it. We've reached out to Behemoth for clarification.

Castle Crashers Remastered launches exclusively on Xbox One on September 9, 2015. There's no word on whether or not the remastered version of the game will come to any other platforms.

Mr. Bogos,

Would you like to edit your headline? I bought CC for PS3 and I got excited for nothing.

As someone who owns Castle Crashers on Steam like a normal person, I find myself somewhat bummed at this news.

This is good news, thought I certainly hope it grows to extend to steam as well, since that is where I actually have it. I would sort of understand if it did not, since most people who have it on steam got it dirt cheap via steam sales anyways, but still, I do hope the deal moves there too.

You and me both...that said I did buy it during a steam sale (as I imagine many people have), so I'm not sure I deserve a free version of this. Plus the fact that I got it soooo late after it was released.

I have it on PS3, so sucks to be me, I guess.

I realize why they chose 360 but why not show a little love to other platforms?

Me too, I would like a free upgrade, I would even go as far as to say that buying it on a Steam sale shouldn't exclude you from it, all I know is that match making sucked, it was next to impossible to find anyone else playing it and as a result I've logged less than an hour of game play. If I had bought the game in the last 3 months I would have been entitled to a refund, a free upgrade with better matchmaking and a resurgence of interest is the least they could do.

Going to join the chorus of others on here by saying that I have the game on Steam, and I'm kinda disappointed.

Hopefully, they'll also include a free update for the PC and PS3 versions, or at least a discount.

Colour me disappointed. Along with state of decay, this is another rerelease that appears xbox exclusive. Why xbox? I thought they were less indie-friendly. Pesky MS, I bet they funded this as a form of exclusive.

I'd like a PC version that plugging my gamepad into doesn't cause to glitch out... Me and my silly priorities, I guess.

Well, in all fairness: the Xbox 360 version is in fact "the original", as in the first version developed and released. That said, I'm also massively disappointed that this remastered version does not come to other platforms as well.

RABBLE RABBLE WHAT ABOUT PC RABBLE RABBLE...haha, yeah as yet another owner of the PC version, I'd like to see it on Steam as well.
Was contemplating buying an Xbone for Halo.

Good to know there are still developers out there with some decency! Sadly, I have no Xbone, so I can't take advantage. And it's never worth buying a whole new console for an update to a game you already have.
