PEGI Rating PlayStation 2 Games for PS4

New listings for classic games suggest the arrival of more emulated titles.

It appears that Sony may nearly be ready to introduce PlayStation 2 titles to the PlayStation 4. Ratings for three games originally released on the legacy platform, Ape Escape 2, Twisted Metal: Black, and Dark Chronicle (also known as Dark Cloud 2 in North America) have appeared on the home page of PEGI, the European ratings group.

This could indicate an impending addition of PS2 titles to PlayStation Now, the game streaming service for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita launched by Sony earlier this year. It's possible that an official announcement may come as early as tomorrow, as Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia will be hosting its annual press conference ahead of Tokyo Game Show.

Of the three games, only Twisted Metal: Black has been re-released for newer console hardware. The game was previously made available as a "PS2 Classics" title for the PlayStation 3.

As of the time of writing, these ratings only appear in the "New Games" list on the PEGI home page. Searching for the titles on the site only returns the PlayStation 2 listings for Twisted Metal and Dark Chronicle, with no reference to the PS4. Ape Escape 2 has no prior listing at all.

Not to be Mr. Nit Picky, but the Star Wars PS4 bundle comes with a bunch of PS2 games. I feel like no news outlet has noticed this, but if they can get a PS2 emulator to run Bounty Hunter and Starfighter on PS4, then they can probably set something up for all of their other games.

Oh I really hope that that PS2 emulator comes out soon.
PlayStation Now still sucks. especially if I try to play it on a university network. I just want to be able to download Persona 3 again.

I wish they'd stop being greedy and just implement backwards compatibility like Microsoft did, I have a whole batch of PS3 and PS2 games I'll gladly dust off to play if they ever do that. Gosh I miss Timesplitters haha

PS3 I can completely understand; the internal architecture of that console is so insane, emulating it would make a high-end gaming PC chug, much less the PS4. I don't expect to see ported PS3 games on the PS4 in the foreseeable future.

Other PlayStation games...no excuse. No excuse at all.

Could you just let us do it with local emulation? Seriously, an Ouya could run a PS1 emulator, how have you not done that yet? There is literally no downside to letting us at least play PS1 games on the PS4. PS2 games would also be pretty easy to emulate. I can understand PS3 problems, but honestly, besides that console, they have no excuse for not doing it, unless they just really hate money. Which it is Sony, besides their PlayStation section, that seems to be the case.

Please be taking a page from Microsoft's playbook on this one, Sony.
Please.
Please.
PLEASE.

I have so many PS2 and PlayStation games I would love to be able to play again without going through a mess of cords and several layers of dust.

My PC can run a PS2 emulator no problem. Only have a few FPS slowdowns. Was just playing Dark Cloud's 1 & 2 on there with very few issues. It is inexcusable that they have not created an emulator for at least PS/PS2 games.

You and me both, my friend! All the fun times with customizable maps and no weapons but the sci-fi handgun for ricochet madness. ^_^

OT: Playing Dragon Quest 8 on my PS2 right now. Wouldn't mind getting it for the PS4 if they manage to get that one going.

I was stunned by how beautiful Dark Cloud 2 looked when I ran it on my PC.

Microsoft didnt impliment backwards compatibility, what they did was had some 360 games ported to the XBO which use your disc as its DRM. From the user side its basically the same however it isn't and requires every developer and publisher to agree to do the work and allow the games to be hosted. Probably cosing Microsoft a fair penny unless they can convince the publisher that its in their best interest and worth the cost. So guarenteed not every game will be ported and thus its not really backwards compatible.
