You know, I actually kind want to see this movie now, if only because I'm so sick of these whiny third-world loving hippies it'll be nice to see some get nommed on.

Unless you fit into the very small group of people who are satisfied with a movie containing nothing but gore, you'll want to skip The Green Inferno.

I think the Saw franchise showed us that group isn't particularly small, even if it isn't block buster-sized.

You know, I actually kind want to see this movie now, if only because I'm so sick of these whiny third-world loving hippies it'll be nice to see some get nommed on.

As much as I like this reasoning (it's why I want to see it after all) it's too bad that they couldn't make it more realistic since you can't really have a movie star people who look the role, and the whole premise is based on them actually doing something for once.

I consider myself someone who at least has some kind of respect for the shock and gore genre (more than I do for mainstream jumpscare horror in most cases at least), and I have little interest in The Green Inferno. Cannibal Holocaust wasn't a perfect movie by any means but it did include an element of complexity and story, examining the morality of westerners trying to disrupt the way of life in those areas. Just doing a lazy ripoff of the movie with better effects isn't enough for my greenbacks.

There really is no more proof needed to show the MPAA is corrupt as hell, this case seemed to be par for the course at this point.

As the director (correctly) stated the movie isn't going to change anything in that regard due to the fact that the people doing that clearing and killing don't need any more justification then what they already have.

Plus, the tribals they hired for the movie didn't seem to mind, behind the scene footage I saw a few days back made it clear they where all on-board with the idea. The film crew even showed them Cannibal Holocaust so they could have a clear idea of what they wanted to do. The reaction was laughter at the absurdity of that movie.

It's a harmless movie that everyone involved seemed to enjoy making that's pandering to a demographic that's the overlap of "watching gore movies" and "seeing an annoying group everyone not in said group hates get killed". It's like Dead Snow only without pretending to make the protagonists likeable.

As discussed in the article, the gore is beyond what would be accepted for an R-rated movie, but because Eli Roth is the director and Universal is attached to it, it gets a pass. The MPAA has a long history of favoritism to big studios when it comes to ratings. Not sure how it works in Canada, but here even though it's not a government body, the MPAA have given BS NC-17 ratings to indie movies, effectively keeping them out of major theaters.

Here in Canada it's more a provincial thing then a national one, but in Quebec we are VERY lax when it comes to ratings. For example: every Marvel movie has had a G rating, as stated before Kingsmen was given a PG-13 rating, and R is reserved for only the bloodiest and sex filled movies like Dredd. An R rating is such an uncommon occurrence here theatres will usually put up pieces of paper on the doors saying "to see (R rated movie) you need an I.D."

I actually remember going to see The Happening alone as a 13 year old and after the movie wondering why you Americans gave it an "R".

When movies and shows come out on DVD our ratings are even MORE lax, as we have the system be "G", "PG", "TV14", "TV16" and "NC17". I'd say "NC17" is basically porn, but there are actually quite a few pornographic elements which make it into "TV14" and "TV16", especially for animation (outside of straight up hentai, Queen's Blade is the only anime I'm aware of which got a "TV16" rating for its uncensored version, with all other such shows getting a "TV14")

I think you can see now why a few months back I made a thread asking why Americans where such prudes when it comes to entertainment.

Well, one of the did once upon a time, though each day it seems those two good movies where a fluke and just a "Chronicle" situation where it was despite, not because, of the director.

I don't understand this. He has nothing to do with those movies.

He has made one of the very, few sequences that have made me turn away from the screen. Even though I've watched the behind the scenes video of them throwing the fake legs over, I still have a hard time watching the hamstringing from Hostel. And I've watched a ton of the movies he takes his inspirations from. I love his films.

I'm looking forward to this new challenge.
