Prepare For World Zombie Day With Survival Infographics

MorphCostumes is gearing up for World Zombie Day with an educational survival infographic.

We've all seen the signs. MorphCostumes has already compiled the research into a convenient infographic just in case the outbreak occurs during World Zombie Day on Oct. 8.

You can see the image in the gallery below, where we've split up the information by category. How does it hold up compared to <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/zombies>prior zombie survival coverage? Not too badly, all things considered. Its weapon choices are especially smart - you should absolutely focus on light firearms with small ammo that won't slow you down when you need to run. The stopping power of say, shotguns, are only helpful when facing small numbers of the undead. If you must go melee, the Shaolin Spade is an excellent, if hard to find weapon that puts the now-standard katana to shame. And of course flamethrowers should always be a last resort, considering how quickly a blaze can get out of control.

The graphic addressed five categories: Identifying zombies, choosing weapons, blending in with zombies, zombie biology, and - most importantly - knowing when you've become infected. It even addresses zombie facts like average life span (3 to 5 years), biological advantages (stamina and hearing), and fashion choices which will get you killed (mullets). There's even a breakdown of safest countries during a zombie apocalypse. America, Australia, and Canada are mostly in the green - Alaska is not. As for our European readers, you're in big trouble, and I'd suggest relocating to Russia as quickly as possible if you want to survive.

There's an uncomfortable lack of information dealing with non-zombie threats - what should we do about raiders or post-apocalypse dictators, for example? But The Walking Dead has covered that pretty extensively, which hopefully is enough of an education. Otherwise this infographic is a great starting point.

Unless the zombies are runners. Then we're in big trouble.

whaaaaaaat? Ireland would be incredibly safe during a Z-war
I will admit to being confused about Greenland. Might be more secluded than Australia plus everything would freeze in winter.

But how would you feed yourself? Greenland import's 80% of it's food with a population of under 60,000 and it's all clustered in the population centres where the zombies will be.

Large empty countries with large populations requiring lots of long life canned goods are the key in the USA, Canada and Russia you can be miles from anyone else while easily travelling to supermarkets for resupply.

Pardon me, but I live in Pittsburgh and have read the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z. I believe I have a few things to say on the matter of zombie survival and where the safest places are.

What? Canada is safe but Alaska isn't? As an Alaskan who's been through Canada multiple times I take issue with this. I mean the Canadians are too nice, they'll all try and hug the zombies... XD Obvious stereotype out of the way, yes Alaska's population is a bit more condensed than Canada's but we also have something like 2.5 guns per household (if I remember the stats correctly). In short, come git sum zambies!!! (second obvious stereotype, I'm on a roll! :p)

Wait, wait, wait. US is a safe zone??? Ok I get having guns would be a slight advantage (depend on how loud it is) and there are large open spaces but still!

Military bases everywhere, the national guard, police, and MANY armed civilians will help keep zombie numbers down. And unlike the movies I think most people would band together.

If you think less about the effect the surviving population has on the zombie population and more about rag tag bands of people, guns and ammo are commonplace. Raiding police stations alone would net you a lot of gear. In big cities and places with good funding our cops have gear rivaling the military.

Also there is a lot of farm land and regions with lots of space and low population. And lots of cars for transportation and for fuel siphoning.

How would a flamethrower be a good weapon against zombies? It's incredibly heavy, only has enough fuel for a few good squirts and can't be reloaded in the field, sets absolutely everything on fire, and would take several minutes of solid burning to actually kill a zombie. Even a normal human can be immolated for a while before they suffocate (long enough to be considered a horrible way to die), but a zombie doesn't breathe, so it would take even longer, and it doesn't feel pain, so it would just keep coming for you.

I imagine it would be good against large hordes. It probably wouldn't take long for the heat of the fire to damage tissues enough to reduce locomotion, but to heat the brain enough to destroy them.

But yeah at that point I think some molotovs would be similarly effective and more safe. And you could carry quite a few.

Well, yea, but it's a corpse that isn't slowed down by the fact that it's decaying and technically none of its myocytes should still be working after rigor mortis passes. I mean, this is the kind of area where the fact that a zombie is completely impossible in the first place makes it kind of hard to make any informed statements on how being cooked would affect them.

It doesn't matter, fire still consumes. All you need is a tendon or two in a crucial spot to melt and stop providing support and down they go. Also presumeably the fire would at least affect their vision. Probably wouldn't take long to scorch them to uselessness, especially since they don't care to shield them.

Wait, so mainland Australia is safe but Tasmania isn't? If anything, Tasmania would be safer due to lower pop and separation from the mainland. Not to mention the remote dense forests to hide in and abundant fresh water supply. The climate is also a lot cooler than the mainland meaning less dehydration.

Oh and Tassie also has the highest gun ownership ratio in Australia.

I'm guessing they based it on gun ownership = safety. The ammo would be gone by the end of week #1!
It's probably more based on population density.

Also the ammo in the US would last years and years, not just a week. Private people can buy nitrogen packed military surplus that comes in pallets and keeps for 100 years, people also can pretty easily buy huge stockpiles of cordite to reload their own cases. The people who stockpile weapons also stockpile ammo. One important thing to keep in mind about the US is that most people in the US actually don't own a gun, it's just that the people who do own guns tend to own a dozen or more of them.

So, if my osmosis knowledge about zombies is correct, I may be safe from them, but I'm never safe from the government going too far to keep the country 100% secure from zombies and the like...

Other than that, I thought zombies hate the cold... unless that one Nazi zombie movie's more accurate than it looked...

Nah, military units conserve ammo, or at least do so more than civilians would. Strict military discipline isn't just for following orders, after all.

apperently a sign of you becoming a zombie is having a coma. a bit too late by then dont you think?

also lol at average lifespan of a zombie being 3-5 years. 3-5 months perhaps before the body eats itself even ignoring all other damage.

countries with outdated cars are the only ones that are goof for this. fuel siphoning is no longer a thing for almost any car made in last 20 years. the gas canisters have filters on them that would not allow this. so come here to Lithuania where average age of a car is 15 years old :p

Alaska, a state with very few people and a lot of guns (even kids take them to school in case they're confronted by a bear or wolves along the way) wouldn't be safe but Siberia and Canada would be?

Confused...
