Wireless Adapter for Xbox One Controllers on PC Out Next Week

Adapter to bring parity to PC and Xbox One console controller experiences.

Microsoft is finally getting around to releasing a wireless PC adapter compatible with the Xbox One controller. The USB dongle, which will retail for $24.99, will be available at retailers on October 20, according to a product listing on Xbox.com.

The adapter is only listed as being compatible with PCs and tablet devices running Windows 10. Whether that's actually the case remains to be seen, though it would seem likely given the company's ongoing push for the new operating system. Likewise, the Xbox One adapter will not be compatible with the Xbox 360 wireless controllers.

When playing games streamed from an Xbox One on PC, the adapter is said to provide the same wireless experience as the console, including in-game chat and audio output through the controller's headphone port.

Included with the adapter is a USB extension cable of unspecified length, allowing for some relocation of the adapter for optimal reception.

Maybe I'm just the unlucky sort, but I had a terrible experience with the wireless PC adapter for Xbox 360 controllers, which would seemingly just fail following six months of use. Three tossed dongles later, I'm definitely going to wait a while before expecting Microsoft to deliver.

I was sold up to the Windows 10 requirement.
I haven't found one reasonable argument as to why not to switch over, it always just feels like the cool jaded thing to say to hate the new OS, regardless of actual quality. I have windows 10, and it's not without it's issues, but I've already had a smoother experience than xp, vista, 7, and 8.1.

slightly on topic, OP, you just had bad luck with the 360 adaptor. I had my first one for 3 years before it got lost in a move. my replacement, I've had for 2.

Wait, it took them this long to release it? I thought this was back at launch or near it!

Sure they were official ones? Lots are floating around that are, externally(and sometimes near internally), perfect clones. Then again, I have the same issues with 360 controllers. I think we're both cursed.

It is basically a legal way to datamine info from users of the OS, that is my personal reason why I will never switch to 10.

I guess I get that, but it still seems silly. as someone who values privacy, I also understand that internet privacy doesn't exist. also, I guess i'm just not really concerned with what info they may or may not get from my usage of the OS. it's never prevented piracy, it's never prevented the viewing of adult material, nothing has come of that information. i'm also a bit of a realist, and realize that if how much information is said to be gathered for every user is actually being gathered, the database would be too large and unwieldy to navigate.

i'm not a PATRIOT ACT "only criminals have reason to hide!" kinda guy, but I honestly think that picking on this one piece of fact is just pointless when we allow far more invasive intrusions every single day. if you carry a phone in your pocket, you're already under more usable surveillance than anything windows 10 is doing.

Yeah, I would just buy another package with a new controller because I was seemingly always in need of another one of those too. Once the nubs have worn off the left analog, it's almost time to toss it, kind of like the blue stripe on my razor that tells me it's time to swap out the blade.

Acting as if they couldn't/didn't do the same exact thing with Windows 8/7/Vista/XP. If you REALLY care about privacy so much, install Linux and only use Windows for games.

Same for me though they both wore out faster and even the sticks would stop working right within a stupidly fast period of time, one time within two months, just beyond the return period for the controller and it was that fancy-ass transforming dpad one when it was still new years back. Sixty bucks, down the toilet. I don't know if I use my controllers beyond what they're supposed to handle or if Microsoft just doesn't make good hardware. Thinking both but leaning more on the latter.

If I cared truly I'd not be using Windows at all. Or the internet period for that matter.

So why won't you be switching to Windows 10 then?

Big difference between the NSA having to harvest data illegally and handing it to them on a silver platter.

So you think that by using the other Windows versions, you're safe from that.
