Sculptor Creates Custom Doom Action Figures

Sculptor Ian Ulmer has created an entire series of custom action figures based on the creatures and characters of Doom.

<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137614-Security-Flaw-Play-Doom-Canon-Pixma-Printer-id-Software>Doom is a game that a lot of people have understandably fond feelings for. Setting aside the fact that it's a hugely and important title in the history of gaming, it was also one of the best games of its time and remains a blast to play today. For most gamers though, their fandom for Doom probably doesn't extend past nice memories and nostalgia. Not so for Ian Ulmer. An American sculptor and Doom fan, he's committed no small portion of his time and skill to creating custom action figures that gamers likely would have died to get their hands on back in 1993.

Working with a variety of materials, Ulmer has created an entire series of Doom figures based on enemies including Imps, Pain Elementals, Demons, Cacodemons and Barons Of Hell. He's also created a custom Space Marine that I'd personally love to have staring at me from my shelf. Speaking to The Escapist, Ulmer offered some details about the process of creating his action figures. "I use magic sculpt, action figures, acrylic paint, and ancient powers from hell," he said. "I make them pretty fast, about 3 to 4 hours [excluding dry time.]" In fact, he makes the Cacodemons and Pain Elementals so quickly that he's able to produce them in large enough numbers to sell them <a href=https://www.etsy.com/listing/239463851/handmade-classic-doom-cacodemon-or-pain?ref=shop_home_active_5>on his Etsy page. Interested gamers can pick them up for 20 dollars each.

We'd be lying if we said there was much more to say about this. It's a neat thing that we like. Sometimes though, it's just fun to offer a bit of limelight to someone who does something cool. And as 1990s gamer can tell you, it doesn't get much cooler than freaking <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/142128-Elder-Scrolls-Fallout-Doom-Release-on-GOG>Doom. (Cue MIDI guitar solo!)

Fairly decent but the pinkies look far to emaciated from the side. Maybe it was a compromise to give them some articulation but it just does not work from an aesthetic point of view.

In the words of someone far more amusing than myself: "D'oh!"

People need to stop linking to the outdated, unsupported Wikia page already. The up to date one is at http://www.doomwiki.org

On top of that, the Doom (specifically Doomworld) community no longer supports the old page.

Yo, Doom Guy. All the chilling out. The Doom community can do what it likes over in Doom County and that's fine, but this is the Escapist. I personally lambast No Mutants Allowed here all the time and they can't do a thing, so let it be, man.

OT: And now, an open letter to Id.

Dear Id Software,

Please do not hit Mr. Ulmer here with any 'cease and desist' orders like Bethesda did with the guy who made me my kick-ass laser rifle to pay his way through college. This guy's got some decent work going on and good craftsmanship is so hard to find these days.

Yours Truly,

And this is important why exactly? If you wanted information on the games both sites have it, I don't know why people feel the need for someone to babysit shit that will never change.

OT: Cool looking stuff, except for the space marine he is looking far too blank next to the detailed monsters. Him selling the models however... well let's just hope Zenimax doesn't read this news because others who have had similar exposure got shut down, this is after all selling other peoples art work. If he called this stuff Doom inspired then he might get away with it, but this is literally sold under the same name.
