I just may have to see this one. Finally, an award winner that ISN'T based on something I already know from the news! There's going to be a butt-load of "issues" movies by winter, and CREED looks like a welcome respite.

Slashers might not have been the best example to go for for seventh installments. Wes Craven's New Nightmare was Elm Street 7, and it was fantastic; H20 was Halloween 7, and it was probably the third best in the series; and even Jason vs the little psychic girl in Friday the 13th 7 was before the series went completely to hell. Now EIGHTH installments, those always suck!

Question: What is the major difference between this movie and Southpaw?
Ha! I was coming in just to ask that same question, though mine is a touch more specific...

Marter, you talk about how the boxing is sensational in this movie and that is something that I'm always excited about. That last fight in Southpaw was pretty good, even though it had more cuts than I would have liked but there's some actual defense and movement, something many boxing movies seem to forget is pretty damn important. Rocky movies idea of defense has always been block their fist using your face until they get too tired to punch you in the face some more; how does the boxing in this film compare to that last fight in Southpaw?

Either way, I went from ready to just write this film off as another stupid cash-grab to really really really really really wanting to see it now. Thanks Marter, I knew we kept you around for something :D

Creed has characters you could root for and a story that is at least moderately interesting - thanks to the little touches thrown in (Rocky's subplot, for example). Southpaw had good boxing scenes and nothing else.

I love Rocky movies. I didn't even hate Rocky V more than I should have. A boxer who vaguely resembles Floyd Mayweather Jr. getting shit kicked out of him is another incentive to watch.

Dammit! All that recommendation reminded me that I only remember the first Rocky movie and nothing else outside of quotable sequences... I really should semi-rectify that before taking the full Creed firsthand...

Other than that, this movie sounds to be more awesome than I originally thought...

Eh I have been more a fan of Raging Bull than Rocky. And I can't wait for Martin Scorsese's next boxing film biopic about Mike Tyson starring Jamie Foxx as the lead man.

And after Winter Soldier, I consider it Marvel canon. Wolverine and young Thor, on the run from the Blob, try to borrow money from the Falcon to enter their robot into an underground Sentinel boxing league.

They say momentous news comes in threes. If these two sevenths were good, that must mean Star Wars is going to be dynamite, right? I can't think of another 7th installment dropping this year.
