John Wick 2 Set Photos Reunite Reeves With Matrix Co-Star

SPOILER ALERT: It is neither Tank nor Dozer.

If you're a fan of movies that are light on plot and extremely heavy on people being shot in the face repeatedly, you couldn't do much better than John Wick.

Starring Keanu Reeves in his most silent, stoic, Keanu Reeves-y role since The Matrix, John Wick was one of those straightforward, popcorn action flicks that found a way to be far more entertaining than it had any right to be. In an added bonus, it also killed at the box office, raking in close to $90 million on a $20 million dollar budget, which according to the bylaws of Hollywood, warrants not only an immediate sequel, but three back-to-back sequels, a TV show, a spinoff, and an immediate reboot.

While time will only tell just how far Reeves can carry the John Wick franchise, the sequel to last year's sleeper hit did begin filming back in November. Bringing back Ian McShane and Bridget Moynahan from the first film and adding Ruby Rose, Common, and Peter Stormare to the ranks, there's no doubt that John Wick 2 will be bigger, badder, and bloodier than the first one.

Of course, there are still some elements of John Wick 2 that its filmmakers are trying to keep a secret -- specifically, a cameo that reunites Reeves with a familiar face from his past.

(Spoilers for John Wick 2 to follow.)

Matrix fans rejoice, because Morpheus himself, Laurence Fishburne, will apparently be making a cameo in the much-hyped John Wick sequel. Fishburne was captured on set by Gothamist photographer Jessica Leibowitz [http://gothamist.com/2015/12/15/keanu_reaves_fishburne_wick.php#photo-4] earlier this week, looking less like Reeves' all-knowing mentor and more like a crazy, pigeon-loving homeless person, but hey, it's still a reunion, dammit!

In all reality, it's not shocking to see another former Matrix castmember getting involved in the John Wick saga, considering the talent behind it. John Wick 2 is being directed by Chad Stahelski, a former stunt double for Reeves on the first Matrix and a stunt coordinator on both of the sequels. The first John Wick was directed by David Leitch, who also did stunt work on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and will be helping produce the sequel. Why Joe Pantoliano is nowhere to be found is anyone's guess.

John Wick 2 is tentatively scheduled for a 2016 release, but the important question is: With both Neo and Morpheus taking part, how high of a body count can we realistically expect to see? Three, four hundred people?

Fuck yeah, Laurence Fishburne is the fucking man! The first movie was a blast and I'm fairly excited for the sequel. One of the few classic action franchises out there these days that is worth a damn, imo.

Only thing I'm disappointed to hear is no word if Adrianne Palicki ("Ms. Perkins") will be around for this one. Still, loved the first one and I'm a big Keanu fan, so here's hoping this is great.

Fuck yeah! I hope this sequel lays out as much implications as the first movie...

Other than that, I kinda want to hear Fishburne's character say "Whoa..." after seeing John Wick in action for the the first time... :p

I hope to see more Continental stuff in this one. The idea of a assassin hub like that is a cool concept and is rife for exploration.

Not sure how she could come back considering what happened to her in the 1st one.

I'm more than happy to check this out. But the thing is, the first film was very personal. I got the motivation, the hopelessness of the character, the nothing to lose mentality because the most precious thing he had was taken from him by fate. I just don't know how they could match that in a sequel. I don't foresee this being very good to be honest. I think the first one worked as a one off.

Bridget Moynihan died too, but she's back.

I'm thinking this might actually be a prequel. Considering how much they talked about all the stuff John did previously, not to mention the great world-buidlinf, I could really see it being a prequel.

Well a prequel sounds good as well since it is an interesting world they built.

There is a video game in development, that will focus on just that.

Actor and character don't always have to overlap. Could be two different people that just look similar, tons of makeup, twins, flashback scenes...
Still, "prequel" is the most sensible explaination right now.

There is?! Do you have a link to a preview, or is that just something they've talked about?

The Continental would make a great tv/netflix series. Just the actual action of assassinations and fighting would get old quick. But the amount and variety of intrigue that could come from the running a high end business that exclusively services a clientele of the underworld, is just intriguing to think about.

So far, Starbreeze and Lionsgate have only talked about it

I'm wondering if they're going the whole "Ghost Dog" route with Mr. Fishburne's character. What with him being a pigeon loving guy who apparently has ties to the hitman community.

Oh good, I was worried it was Trinity and therefore pointless to mention. But Laurence Fishburne (or Samuel L Jackson if you're a dumb radio show host prone to making hilarious mistakes)? Awesome. That Peewee's playhouse cowboy has some fantastic acting chops.

On the basis that Wick "retired" from hie professional life to be with his wife, only to have that taken away from him, it could work out that the events of the first were a catalyst to make him return to work. He would be the same assassin, but with a "dark past" and any story could simply be one of a hitman doing his job.

One issue I have with any film about a hitman (Agent 47, John Wick, Grosse Point Blank, etc), the protagonist is never actually doing their job, not really. We can't root for a villain so instead they make them an anti-hero...they're assassins, and thus bad guys, but they do a good thing (or at least fight worse people than them) so they are good guys in the context of the film. Rival assassins (usually of the sadistic sort), corrupt cops and crime bosses are inevitably the actual villains.
