One Punch Man best anime 2015!

I didn't even hear about Thunderbolt, looks interesting.

G Gundam BEST GUNDAM AND ONLY LIARS WOULD SAY OTHERWISE! Real talk, IBO is only now starting to get good, the first 10 or so episodes were tedious.

Assassination Classroom is tons of fun and the next season is still tons of fun.

But where's the love for Gakkou Gurashi? Best slice of life anime 2015

The thing about Thunderbolt is that there is only one episode of it so far...

I guess it could be similar to Unicorn route as I read there are only 3 more episodes to it.

I'm dead interested in the Gundam series. Love it and the BattleTech series! Why oh why do we not have interplanetary wars with giant robots?! It'd solve so many problems!
Still think Gundam Wing is the best Gundam series ever though.

I don't get it. Its like filler DBZ episodes but without the payoff. Just boring disinterested people doing boring disinterested stuff.

What we're actually watching are the characters around Saitama (said One Punch Man) as they go through shonen tropes and subversions in their own well built world before Saitama comes through and refuses to play those games.

It's about animation more than anything, if you like fight animated in interesting way it's really good. The first half has some pretty good humor, the second half try to get a real story and message but it's...meh, I think it tries to push one message but if you think about it it's actually advertising the exact opposite message.

Some people bill it as a parody of shonen, but ultimately everything that makes it good is what makes a shonen good (awesome over the top fight, super powerful main character). It doesn't so much make fun of the cliche as it embrace them.

I started watching One Punch Man today and I'm three episodes deep. It plays with the shonen tropes, but is ultimately intimately tied to the genre. Fun to watch if you're into that kind of anime, otherwise I don't think this tongue-in-cheek attitude will change your mind.

I'm pretty sure anyone interested in anime would have at least heard of One Punch Man.

Gundam Thunderbolt is pure mecha porn and its fantastic. Anyone interested in the Universal century or gundam in general should definitely check it out. Too bad its only going to be four 18 minute episodes (16 minutes if you exclude the ending credits).

Iron Blooded Orphans is a pretty good gundam series even if its pacing is a bit slow at times.

The thing about Thunderbolt is that there is only one episode of it so far...

I guess it could be similar to Unicorn route as I read there are only 3 more episodes to it.

Its a bit closer to Gundam SEED Stargazer which was also an ONA and had only three 15 minute episodes. While the length of Thunderbolt is disappointing at least we only have to wait about 2 months for each episode as opposed to 6-12 months with Unicorn.

The entire premise is built around subverting expectation, playing with tropes and generally having fun with the entire super hero genre both in regards to parodying western and eastern media while at the same time paying tremendous homage to it and being completely bad ass in its own way.

Saitama looks and dresses the way he does because that's literally part of the joke, he's a million times more powerful than your goku's and your superman's but dresses like a lazy cosplayer. And sometimes he is drawn super serious and sometimes he is drawn really goofy, it all depends on the moment to moment intention of a scene or sequence.

I interpret it primarily as a japanese version of the marvel-verse as their 100s and 100s of heroes of various types from the very serious to the very stupid to guys who are straight up frauds that keep being put in harms way or try-hards who have more courage and heroism than anyone else but constantly fail. Again - all about having fun with tropes and cliches, that's the whole point of it and it is frequently hilarious for this reason.

People who "don't get" OPM simply are interpreting it incorrectly, its a comedy first and foremost, not to be taken too seriously most of the time. You need a sense of self awareness and a general appreciation for a comedic take on super hero stuff to really appreciate it.

If for example you are a DC fanboy who takes his heroes EXTREMELY GRIM DARK SERIOUS all the time then you'll probably hate OPM as its actively mocking that kind of thing frequently.

I agree - One Punch Man was unmissable because it seemed to be everywhere, as with Assassination Classroom (which has like a lot more merch at Hot Topic than I would've thought).

Also this. Death Parade was fantastic. Mmmmaybe because the original short was released in 2013? Still though, I'd put it on this list instead of Digimon - maybe that's because I have no nostalgic ties to Digimon.

As for the other ones mentioned... I'm not big on Gundam and the other ones (Assassination Classroom and One Punch Man omitted) don't entirely look like my bag. Then again, maybe I've just outgrown anime

No Gate? List is instantly marked as terrible now. And I don't think anyone with an internet connection has not heard of One Punch Man at this time. It's the Attack on Titan/Sword Art Online/other popular anime of previous years of 2015.

Yeah, I can't lie ... One Punch Man was the best anime of the year. I REALLY hope Season 2 comes around.

I'm actually really curious how well the series did in Japan, since you know they pretty much decide if we get a second season.

Biggest miss for a lot of people in my opinion was Gate. That was my crack this year.

I did like the premise of Overlord, though. They ended it at just about the right place as well because the light novels after that start to require a pallet cleanser between them.

Gate was freakin' spectacular...wait, why am I saying "was"? Season 2 just started a week.5 ago and it is still spectacular!

Also, there was the finishing up of Aldnoah.Zero in January 2015 with the 2nd season wrap up. While it wasn't as spectacular as the 1st season, it was far better than many of the Gundam shows.

World Trigger is a good long-standing series starting from late 2014 (Oct) and is still going strong at 60+ episodes. A very detailed, in-depth anime (if a bit 'cheesy' at times).

Oh, how about the Heroic Legend of Arslan? That one is a very enjoyable medieval times war series.


Noragami picked up it's 2nd season in 2015, 5 years after the 1st season aired! Still in good taste and still held up greatly with a very enjoyable plot line.


K (King) also picked up its 2nd season in 2015, after a 3 year hiatus from the first season's 2012 release.


Seraph of the End is an okay post-apocalyptic vampires vs. super humans show with a few added twists.


Oh, and one big one: Ushio and Tora. Great characters, enjoyable story. Funny sometimes, but not an overtly pushy comedy compared to trying to keep it more down to earth.



Overall 2015 was a great year for anime...and not just "Gundom, man!".
