Why would anyone want a vastly inferior version of this great game?
Quite! Why would someone drive a car when they could fly the plane they don't own? Wait, that doesn't make any sense at all... 'Best' version doesn't somehow magically/automatically determine what system someone games on (I doubt my laptop could run TW2, and I'm not sure how good its controller support would be).

I've gone from 360 to XB1, and given I've not played TW3 yet, this is perfectly timed for a replay. Er, well, when the GotY comes out and I've stopped playing other games...

I have my doubts a BC version wouldn't come with its own issues, though, so being playable is irrelevant if it's not stable.

That's a little misleading, I'm in the UK and apparently the offer isn't valid for my region
I think it might just be the store that is regionally bugged. The link sent me to the american store, where I couldn't claim the offer as it wasn't available in my region (Norway). However, changing to the Norwegian store and searching for the Witcher 2 allowed me to claim it for free.
If you're in the UK, try going to this store link instead: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/The-Witcher-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024e4d0855
