Longtime BioWare writer David Gaider announced his departure from the studio on Twitter today.

David Gaider [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/david%20gaider?from_search=1&&os=david+gaider] announced his departure from BioWare on Twitter today. Gaider has been with BioWare for 17 years, working on franchises Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Dragon Age - including spin-off novels.

"Some news: I must sadly announce that, after 17 years, today is my last day at BioWare," Gaider wrote. "I'll miss my team, and wish everyone here the best."

In a follow up tweet [https://twitter.com/davidgaider/status/690573705680805888], Gaider wrote "My twitter feed is a bit overwhelming at the moment. Thank you to everyone for the kind comments."

"It was indeed my decision, one not made easily since BioWare's been very good to me, and the parting is amicable. It's simply time to move onto a new challenge," Gaider said in an email to Polygon [http://www.polygon.com/2016/1/22/10814786/david-gaider-bioware-leaves-dragon-age-gay-character]. "As to where I'm headed next, that announcement will come in due time - today's about saying goodbye and packing up."

How long until he starts a new company and puts up a kickstarter? I've got 20 on 12 months.

A whole year? I'll take that action, my money's on july or august this year, around the dry period.
Offering 10 to 1 on more than two years.

Took Inafune ~3 years between leaving and starting his kickstarter, so I'm pretty confident in my 1 year bet ;)

Considering how the games he's been at the helm at have deteriorated in quality and have had questionable design decisions made over the last few years, it may be for the best that he quits while he's ahead. I'm just not sure if modern Bioware has any of their original talent left after all their layoffs over the years.

Not surprising. Bioware just continues their painful slip into mediocrity after they sold their souls to EA.

With Gaider gone, the talent depth left in the company is getting remarkably thinner by the year.

I may not have always agreed with David Gaider's choices and decisions, but I still think he was one of the bright spots in Bioware.

I will miss him.

Man, Bioware just keeps on bleeding talent. I don't blame him though. Bioware writers cop a lot of abuse on social media, and I'm not sure the formula Bioware have bullishly insisted on restricting themselves to recently would be all that entertaining to write in after the first few times. Wish him the best.

People are predicting he'll start his own company? I was thinking he might join Kojima. It was barely a month ago that Kojima announced he was opening a new studio, I could easily see plenty of talented people being drawn to the potential of such an endeavor.

Announcing a game during christmas or winter when the market is saturated seems like a bad idea, and since Inafune quit in october it was about a year until the dry spell during the summer. So my guess is either july or august this year or in 2017.

I just take it as yet another sign of Bioware's rapid EA Borg enforced descent into mediocrity and eventual closure.
