The Boy - It's About a Girl and a Creepy Doll

The Boy had the potential and the elements to be a genuinely great horror movie. Instead, it's a forgettable one with a dumb twist.

That...that can't really be the ending, right? Come on, Marter, tell me you made that up. Even by crappy January horror movie standards, that is a terrible ending, and even by reading the review, I can already spot several plot holes it creates.

When you don't even need to see a movie to know the ending makes no sense, then you need to rewrite your freaking movie.

I think the last time a good movie came out in January it was 2012 or 2013. Her, IIRC.
Her would've been an expansion, since its release date was technically in December. Just like The Revenant and Anomalisa this year; they went wide in January, but were released in December (to qualify for the Oscars).

The last good January movie was just last year: Paddington.

Aww that's the ending?! I was hoping for something dumber, like aliens come down. Or the whole thing was in the woman's mind and she's been in an insane asylum the whole time, or she actually the sister of the kid or something.

I'm just so Fucking sick of these bullshit twists in horror movies. Just stop having twists horror movies, you're not good at it. I seriously cannot think of a mainstream horror movie twist that didn't make me bang my head against the wall in pure frustration.

There is nothing more annoying (except a really bad comedy) than something that things that a lot smarter then everyone else and that's most horror movie twists in a nutshell.

edit: forgot to mention this movie had the most embarrassing advertisement for a horror movie I think I've ever seen. You know where movies usually put quotes from critics to praise movies. yeah replace that with tweets. Yes it's as stupid as you imagine.

Haha! Dumb horror movie for dumb people. That twist...Wow. Sounds like a great way to make the idea even less scarier than a chip pan fire. I did have to reread that plot twist to make sure it wasn't just me being the big dumbdumb. Nope, it really is that daft and, dare i say, pulled out of someboy's arse at the last moment.

Is he at least horribly disfigured physically and mentally? Because thats the only excuse I can come up with for his brilliant "I'l go live in the walls for twenty years" plan.

Makes me pine for the simpler days of slasher films, when all it took to shock an audience was for the twist to be that the killer had a penis.

Disappointed but not surprised to hear it's a forgettable flick, though. No studio puts a movie they have any faith in out this time of year, but the trailers for the film did have me interested. I may watch it if it proves to be the least awful horror film this month

That twist, to me, is almost filled with untapped potential... like reading a Heroes transcript post-Season 1 or something...

Other than that, if only the boyfriend was, somehow, tied to the twist somehow... Now, that would be a terrible twist... :p

I don't know what you were expecting. If a movie can't even keep up a proper rhyming scheme in the creepy nursery rhyme that it uses in the trailers, I can't imagine how it could have a decent script.
