You know, the Shadows of the Empire Music track was surprisingly good for a soundtrack to a book.

AND a video game! It was the 3rd game I got for my N64. Ah, what memories it conjures.
The way I heard it, the multimedia blowout surrounding Shadows of the Empire (novel, comic series, video game, toy line) was a testbed for how they would eventually roll out Episode I, then The Clone Wars.
