Super Mario Maker Gets Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander Costumes

Celebrate Pokemon's 20th anniversary with these free Super Mario Maker costumes.

The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are coming out swinging for the 20th anniversary of the original Red and Blue games. As well as plenty of Pokemon-related promotions, we're also getting some cool cross-promotions. Case in point: these three awesome classic Pokemon costumes for use in Super Mario Maker [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/super%20mario%20maker?os=super+mario+maker].

By clearing a new event course, you can unlock Squritle, Charmander and Bulbasaur costumes for use in the game. The costumes all come with their own classic Red and Blue sound effects.

This isn't the first time Nintendo has added new costumes to Super Mario Maker, with supporting characters like daisy seeing release earlier in the year.

I could've sworn I saw them already in a couple of Poke-themed levels. Guess not.

Anyway, this is sort of neat. It's a shame costumes are cosmetic only. It'd be cool if all of them functioned as power ups rather than basically a super mushroom minus the size.

I know right, they wouldn't even have to be inventive with charmander, just give it fire flower power
